Prelude Chapter...

"No! No, please no.."

"Clarissa I'm so sorry." Henry Engle apologized as he gave Clarissa the worse news she'd ever recieve in her life.

It tore Henry to know, let alone be the one to tell his best friends daughter that he was gone.

Clarissa curled up into a ball on her kitchen floor.

Where just moments before she had finished meal prep for the dinner she was going to cook for her parents.

Her parents who were never coming home.

"Peanut, come here." Hector said as he sat beside her and drew her into his arms.

Rocking her side to side he sang to his little princess who had a chunk ripped out of her heart.

Madelline and Amanda stood by the door holding each other with tears in their eyes.

"Mama. Clarie.." Amanda whispered as she looked up at her mother.

Pain for Clarissa lay in the 10 year olds eyes.

"Shh. I know, I know baby."

The house was dark. The house was dark for a long time.

"Clarissa?"

"Clarissa.." Daisy sang.

"Baby girl wake up."

"Mmm. A few more minutes mommy."

"Sweetie you have to get up for school."

"Huh okay."

Clarissa sat up in her bed and looked at her mom.

"Hi." She said sheepishly.

Daisy smiled.

"Come here princess." Daisy cooed as she lifted Clarissa into her arms.

"Mommy I want to wear emerald today!"

"Emerald huh?"

"Yeah, that's what April calls green. She said that its sophisticated." The six year old squealed.

Daisy laughed. "You are too much lady bug."

"Good morning daddy!" Clarissa shouted as her and her mother entered their dining room.

"Good morning Clare-Bear." He said as he took his daughter from his wife's arms.

"Good morning beautiful." Richard whispered to his wife as he pecked her lips.

"No kiss for me!?"

"Of course you get kisses." Both parents said.

"Muuaahh!" They exclaimed as they kissed either cheek.

"I love you mommy and daddy!"

"We love you too princess."

...

"Clarissa?"

"Sweetie?"

As Clarissa felt a hand touch her, she looked to see her Aunt Lilly.

"How you hold'in up?"

"I don't want to be here. Their, their gone Aunt Lilly. God took them from me!" She spoke as she grabbed her bed sheets.

Taking her niece into her arms Lilly let Clarissa cry.

"Lillian."

"We're coming momma, just a few more minutes."

After awhile of letting Clarissa calm down, Lilly lifted her face and spoke-

"Everything happens for a reason. And I know too many people say the same thing, but it is the truth baby girl. God would not have taken then it it weren't their time."

"Always remember that he loves you, me and all of us. And he only wants the best for us."

"I know." Clarissa said as she stood and waited for her Aunt to follow her out of her room.

"Clarissa." Was spoke around the eastwing den as she entered.

She took in all of her family and friends who came to mourn her parents with her. Spotting her GG, she walked over to her and sat beside her.

"Hi Grandma."

"Hi baby." She said to great granddaughter as she motioned for her to get close so she can wrap her arms around her.

"You have your great grandaddies eyes. Bright green with a rim of hazel. I always loved those eyes, and they've passed down from my husband to your grandad to your father and you. Ya got your mom's pretty hair though, she had the prettiest natural curls."

Clarissa smiled. "Thank you GG."

"You're welcome baby. Now don't ever forget that you are loved and that your family will always be here for you."

"I know GG, I know."

Clarissa responded as she looked up and looked at all of her family that surrounded her and was shrouding her in love.
