Chapter 5

==================================================================================

But at least the odd vision stopped. Many times I had feared looking into the mirror, scared of the girl that was my reflection who was in the mirror. Leprechauns make me fidget and yelp like a little girl, and I often shy away from people.

I was packing up my stuff, ready to leave Dunked, somewhere around midnight when a man entered the pub. 'May I see a girl named Zaria...Loyt, please?' He was in his mid thirties with short cropped brown hair and coffee brown eyes.

'That is me.' I spoke up. 'What is this all about?'

'Nice to meet you.' He shook my hand. 'My name's John. I'm a talent agent and I saw your video of you singing "The Lonely" on YouTube.' He started explaining. 'I thought you really had a talent there, and I really love your smile. How'd you like if we scouted you to represent our agency as our first female solo artist?'

'But I never uploaded any video.' I protested.

'But that is besides the point. My agency had taken an interest in you and we wonder if you would consider accepting our offer. Deal? Imagine, a big superstar. Your face on every magazine and on television. It's every girl's dream.' He persuaded.

'I don't know.' I was trying to keep a low profile here. But the offer was great. And I probably would not have to be homeless anymore.

'Just think about it.' John slipped out a name card and placed it on the table. He then walked out the pub.

I read the card. Sony Music. Should I? I did not even know I could sing, much less have a talent.

'So who was that?' Silena poked me from behind. She was one of the waitresses in Dunked. 'And what did he say?' I kind of considered her as my friend because she was the only one who talked to me.

'That was a talent agent. He wanted to scout me.' I said. 'He said he came across a video of me singing.' I added slowly.

'He saw the video?! I knew it! With a talent like that, it was pretty hard to miss it, huh?' She started getting excited and nudged every me and then. 'You should go watch it and hear it. You do know some singers do not really have the talent, just the looks and their singing are auto tuned. You are special. You sound awesome!'

'It was you who uploaded my video. Why?' I was embarrassed. My face would be on YouTube for everyone to see. I was bound to get caught at an even faster rate.

'Because I think that everyone deserves a chance. I've seen what you've been through. It's your ticket to fame. Besides, that means no need of sleeping by the streets anymore. You have talent, share it with the world.' Silena urged. 'Don't be selfish, girl.'

'You think it is selfish?' I stared at her blankly. 'Then what about those who are the really talented ones? Do they get recognized? Most don't. Why me in the first place? I don't even like stage work and solos. I get cold feet. Nah. The entertainment industry is just not for me.'

'Listen, Loyt!' She snapped. 'You got lucky. You've caught people's eyes. It was meant to be. The others will have their time, but now is your moment. Where's the point of throwing it out of the window?'

I groaned as the debate seemed to go on forever. 'Alright. Alright.' I gave in. 'I'll do it. Because you think I'll be making others happy. I will do this representing all the talented artists that were never recognized or appreciated.'

'EEEEEEE!!!' Silena squealed and hugged me tight. 'I'm so proud to call you my friend.'

'Thanks. You came up to me and befriended when nobody else does, so you became my friend. Not because I chose you, but because you chose me.' For once, I had tear up because I was grateful, it was not the pain or the nightmares.
