Chapter 15
===================================================================================
'Is this your "fancy"?' Niall joked as he leaned casually against my bedroom door. He had arrived just as I woke up and the poor boy had to wait for twenty minutes for me to get ready. I couldn't think of the possibility that going to one's house would be that special so I just threw on a simple green tee and cargo pants. Even if I had decided to doll up myself, I didn't own a single blouse and I had in my closet only a bright colored flowing beach dress and neither did I want to waste any of my time applying makeup. They have this unpleasant smell that gets to my nose every time.
'Oh, yes. I actually made an attempt on choosing my outfit.' I said truthfully and put on a pair of brightly doodled - credits to me and Silena - Toms before grabbing a slouchy stripped tote bag and slipping on a white cap along with a pair of sunglasses. 'Shall we? Don't wanna be late, isn't it?' I flashed him a smile and we took his car to my parent's house. I tried memorizing the roads and remembering the directions as we passed on by streets.
'Are you still nervous? You're fidgeting.' Niall asked as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder while walking down the dirt path to the front doorsteps. He extended an arm and pushed the button as the sound of the doorbell echoed through the household. I snuggled further into his chest as he body warmth spread up my skin and looked around cautiously for any fans. I guess I got more worried after yesterday's chaos.
The door swung open and Mrs Carlsleigh - I should try to call her mum, after all I came from her womb. Just that it was kinda awkward giving such a big title whom I barely known for two days - greeted me with a motherly hug before waving for us to get into the house.
'I really shouldn't be here.' Niall mumbled. 'It's your family thing, the bunch of you probably don't want me to snoop around your family's business and privacy. I'll just be going.' He turned on his heel but I caught hold of his wrist and pulled him back. He looked slightly confused as he tripped over the steps.
'ALTHEA!!!' A voice boomed from behind me as the door closed. I felt a pair of arms lifting me from behind. Unfortunately, whoever who was attempting to carry me was not a strong person. I could tell. We fell backwards and crashed into the sofa. 'Oof!' He exclaimed as I landed sharply onto his tummy.
'Sorry.' I jumped to my feet and turned to face a scrawny man around my age, slightly older I suppose. He had thick black hair and dark brown eyes, towering over me by a whole head.
'Sissy!' He hugged me, ruffling my hair till it looked like a bird had made a nest out of it. 'You probably don't remember me, we used to annoy each other!' He said as if it were a good thing with a silly grin plastered on his face. I shook my head and he let out an exasperated sigh. 'I'm your big bro, Cay. Like southwest of Florida coral reef Cay?'
I wished I knew. 'But I have a brother, and that's all that matters!' I jumped up and down in a kind of jiggly dance, my "Happy Dance". I guess it's nice to have older siblings, and even if some might get to your nerves, deep down inside they care a lot for you, constantly on the look out. 'Wait. So how do we get along? Fine? Or do we usually have dog cat fights?'
'Let's just say you were always the one looking for a fight.' Cay smirked.
'Am not!' I pouted.
'Are too! Nice hair, so spunky. Can I believe?! My baby sister is a pretty superstar! Always knew you could do it! By the way,' He leaned into my ear. 'Guess who's birthday is it?'
'Mine?!'
'No...' Then he pointed at himself in a most retarded way. He snapped on a red party hat with a number nineteen on it.
'Oooh!!! Why didn't anyone tell me sooner? I could've gotten you a present. Eeee!!! Happy buffday my skinny brother!' I gave him another big hug. He gave out a big laugh but his smile faltered. I turned to the direction he was staring at and realised that Cay was snarling at Niall.
'Why are you here?' Cay hissed, his eyes turned hostile. 'I thought I told you to leave Althea alone.' He clenched his fist. But honestly, if it were a battle, Cay would lose. I was sure of it. Not saying I'll choose a friend over my brother, but even so Cay was more of a stranger compared to Niall.
Niall backed away, holding his hand up in a defensive manner. 'Look Cay, I know you're mad. We're not even dating anymore. Just friends.' He tried to reassure him.
'Cay, cay.' I stood in front of him and held his hands. 'Listen to him. He's right. I don't have any feelings for him or whatsoever. Just let it go. Whatever happened was in the past. I don't mind Niall hanging around, that means you've gotta tolerate him, okay?' But Cay's eyes were still filled with anger, at least he calmed down a bit.
'Let's go somewhere else.' I tugged at Niall's sleeve and led him into another room. Olivia was sat comfortably on a couch watching a movie while stuffing her cheeks with chips. 'Hey Olivia.' I said casually.
'Zaria! Niall!' She squealed and came to give us a hug. 'Hey, can I take a picture with you guys? My friends didn't believe me when I said I met you two.' She pulled out a digital camera when we gave her our consent. 'Thank you! Say butterfly!' We posed and the flash went off.
'So what are you watching?' Niall said as we plopped onto the couch.
'Enchanted.'
'Oh.'
We watched as a purple dragon fell from the building and disappeared into purple sparkles. 'Aw...I like the dragon, so cute...' I pouted. Carrie Underwood's "Happy Ever After" started to play and Niall slid off the couch and got onto on knee. 'Niall?' I thought he was going to propose.
He mouthed the words of Prince Edward perfectly. 'Why so sad, beautiful lady?' He asked as the lady said that Giselle had left her shoe. Niall slip out his sneaker and put it on for me. 'It's a perfect fit.'
'Niall!' I kicked him gently in his chest. 'Was that suppose to be an insult?!'
My mother came in carrying a little baby boy. 'Could you possibly take care of your cousin for a moment? Your aunt's in the toilet and I need to prepare lunch. Okay? Thanks.' She handed me the kid.
'Hey,' I bounced him up and down and he started giggling. 'Sho cute!' I muzzled his little nose.
'ToTo!' Olivia kissed his soft cheek. 'Thor? Thor!' The baby looked at her with his grey-ish brown eyes and showed a toothy-grin. 'Good boy!' Olivia turned to me an explained. 'He's our cousin. Aunt Lilian married a Swedish man.'
'Ooh.' I rubbed his soft cheeks but he extended an arm and grabbed a handful of my hair. 'Ouch! Bad Thor! Let go.' I struggled with the baby. When I tried to make him loosen his grip, he started bawling. Thankfully, when Niall took him out of my hands, Thor took a liking to him and cllng onto Niall, though still crying.
I went to the bathroom to compose myself. When I got back, I heard Olivia and Niall having a conversation. I know it's bad to eavesdrop but they were talking about me.
'Of course I still love her.' Niall said. 'I thought I'll marry her someday. I still would, but she changed. And she has been acting strangely.'
'Maybe she's confused.' Olivia stated but she doubt in her voice. 'Give her some time, hmm?'
I didn't want to hear anymore. I walked in and noticed Thor had stopped crying and fell asleep in Niall's arms. A smile formed on my lips. 'You'd make a wonderful father.'
'You mean with someone else.' He said miserably.
