Never Coming Home

"You're a little disappointment," my dad says in my face. I crawl back into the corner of my room, and hide my face. He raises the belt in the air, and whips it directly at my arm. I grab it, exposing my face. My drunk father takes advantage, and hits me again, only this time, in the face. My older sister- god bless her- runs in front of him just as he goes to hit me again.

"What the fuck, Dad?" She yells at him. He puts the belt back on.

"The little motherfucker is a disappointment. She needs to know it," he says. Sarah was always his favorite. Sarah never got hit. Sarah wasn't an accident, unlike me. Dad never got drunk around Sarah. Because Sarah was his favorite.

"Skylar, get up. Go in the bathroom, I'll get it." Sarah says, and I listen to her. She follows me into the bathroom, where the rubbing alcohol is always needed. She mumbles lots of things about Dad under her breath while cleaning the small cuts on my arm and face.

"Go back to bed. I promise he won't drag you out again." She says after putting Band-Aids on the cuts.  I walk back to my room, and grab the suitcase from under my bed. I shove lots of clothes and all the cash that I stole from my mom, who was passed out because she decided to get too drunk, in the suitcase.

"Sarah, I couldn't take it anymore. You always say that you are sorry for what happens, but you'll never know what it's like to be hated by your parents. Where I'm going, I'm not sure. I stole all the money I could find, and I'm taking the old car. Don't call the cops. I'm safe." I write to my sister. I slip in her room, and lay it on her charging phone. I jog back to my room, and grab the suitcase. I run down the stairs, and grab the keys to the old car that is never used. I look around while walking to the door, and notice a family picture from two years ago. I turn around, and slam it on the ground, and walk outside. I'm never turning back.
