I woke up to the sound of a girl crying. I sighed and rolled over, hoping she'd stop.

My guess was that it was Mindy. She cried herself to sleep every night. As the unfortunate designated caretaker of all the girls she usually came to me the nights she couldn't sleep. Tonight apparently she decided that she wouldn't disturb. Unfortunately she already had.

After several long painful moments of listening to her whimper and sniffle, I sighed once more and sat up.

"Mindy, is that you?" I whisper, trying not to disturb the other girls.

It was silent for a moment and then I heard another sniffle.

"Yes."

I got up and slowly walked in the dark over to her bed.

"Troubles sleeping?" I ask.

"Yeah... I miss my family..." She tells me.

I felt bad for Mindy, and most of the other girls. Unlike them I couldn't remember my family. I had zero memories of them. There were some images in my mind that sometimes I could focus on and see faces but I could never fully make them out. I really only remember my life here, in the club.

"I know, sweetie. But it's ok. You don't have to work today. You have today off so you can sleep in, take a bath, relax."

She nodded. "I just wish I could go home."

"I know."

I gave her a kiss on the forehead and walked back to my bed. I laid down and took a deep breath. It was going to be a long day, I could feel it.

I woke up again when the usual alarm when off.

"Rise and shines my beauties, it's going to be a wonderful day!" The familiar voice of Hugo, the boss came through the speaker.

I yawned and stood, the first girl up.

I let the girls sleep until I was out of the bathroom.

"I'm going to get changed and when I get back I expect to see all of your bright and shiny faces!" I call out, walking into the adjoining room.

The adjoining room was designated the Closet. Since there were about twenty of us girls one "closet" didn't hold enough clothes.

The Closet was just a large room with clothes racks on two of the walls, and makeup stations on the other walls.

I changed out of my pajamas and into a black dress. I checked myself in the mirror, running my hands through my hair before walking back into the large collective bedroom.

Once inside I noticed that everyone was awake.

"Good morning, everyone."

"Good morning, Lucy."

I walk through the room to the other end where there was the door to the rest of the club. The door was always locked, a precaution so that no one could escape. There was an intercom beside the door.

I hit the button to call.

"Good morning, Lucy." Hugo says through the intercom.

"Good morning, sir."

"Please come to my office immediately."

"Yes, sir."

The lock clicked as it unlocked and I opened the door. The second it closed behind me the lock clicked back in place. I felt bad for the rest of the girls. Hugo didn't trust them with anything. Only me, but Hugo had raised me, saved me. I owed him my life.
