Chapter 7
When I wake up I look at the clock. It's 1 o'clock right now. I almost scream. One more hour until Peeta comes home! I realized I never told Haymitch when Peeta would come back. So I head over there to let him know. He's outside on his back porch feeding his geese.
"Hey Haymitch." I say to him.
"Hey sweetheart." He says not taking his eyes off the geese.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, but I saw that Peeta's train should arrive in about an hour, at 2." I say.
"Oh okay thanks." He says.
"Anytime, have fun with your friends." I say referring to the geese and walking back to my house. I don't know what else to do so I just sit at my counter for I don't know how long. After what feels like centuries, I notice someone walk into Victors Village. When I focus my eyes on them, I see blond hair and an amazingly defined jaw line. Peeta. As he's coming closer to my house, I sprint out of my house and right to him. I run into his arms and say
"Peeta!" And I start crying. "I'm so sorry I never responded to any of your letters. I just was in such a horrible state, and I couldn't do anything. When I read those letters, it completely changed things, you helped me Peeta. Thank you!" I say in between sobs.
"Katniss, it's okay. I forgive you. I'm just glad to see you and be home!" He says.
He still has his arms wrapped tightly around me and mine around him. I never want to let go.
"I missed you so much." He says nuzzling his head into my neck.
"Me too, I missed you so so so so so much Peeta, so much." I say still crying.
He holds my head close to him and I can't get enough of this. Suddenly I realize how much I love Peeta Mellark and how much he still loves me.
"I love you Peeta." I say barely, audible.
"I love you too, Katniss, I never stopped and I never will." He says and he takes my hand and we walk up the steps of his house.
