Shifting Camila off of her lap and onto the floor, Lauren stands up and brushes off her legs. Knowing this decision involved the small girl way more than it does her, Lauren holds her hand out for her to take.
Much to her surprise, she doesn't hesitate to take it, and soon enough, they were downstairs and in the kitchen, stood in front of the ringing phone.
Not letting go of her baby's hand, Lauren grabs the phone and answers it, bringing it to her ear.
"Hello?"
"Lauren, it's Demi, are you free to talk?" The police officer asks, her tone of voice sounding rushed and hurried, a sure sign she was busy.
"Yes of course" she says quickly, glancing nervously at her mom. Clara sends her daughter a reassuring smile, silently telling her everything was fine.
"Okay, so Anne and Derrick have both been found guilty to several cases of child abuse and child endangerment, and after three hours of talking with the jury, Derrick was sentenced to ten years in prison with no chance of parole, and Anne was sentenced to seven years with no chance of parole" Demi explains, her voice now taking on a happier tone.
It was obvious she got the result she wanted.
A wide grin appearing on her face, Lauren takes a big breath of relief, "That's great, thank you so much"
"You're so so welcome, go and tell Camila to the good news" Demi grins.
Lauren hangs up the phone and places it back down onto the table, slowing turning round to face the anxious girl next to her.
She bends down and places her arms around Camila's waist, hoisting her up into her arms.
"Guess who gets to stay with their mama forever without worrying about mr Derrick or miss Anne?" She murmurs, placing a kiss onto the side of the girls head.
Lifting her head up from her mama's shoulder, Camila looks at the green eyed girl with wide, hopeful eyes, "me Mama?" She whispers, tearing up.
Nodding softly, "that's right baby, you" she replies quietly, pulling the girl closer to her.
Grinning tearfully, Camila squeezes her mama closer to her.
She finally has a family she gets to stay with forever.
Lauren knew that her journey with Camila was only just beginning. She had a lot to learn about being a mom, but she knew with the help of her family, friends, and most importantly, her little girl, she knew everything would be alright.
