The Perfect Partner [AU]

Chapter Thirteen.

   Steve started to move in with me. Funny thing is, I have my own gym downstairs at the basement. Steve wandered around, and could not believe it. "You have your own gym.." He looks at me from head to toe, then scans the room, "Wow."

I chuckled, standing beside him. "You can spend a day here." I bluffed, looking at him. He glanced at a door, "What's in there?"

I paused, heading towards the door. "Its a closet." I gently opened it, revealing ammunition. His eyes widened then glanced right back at me. He raised his hands, "No questions."

Before I left him on his own, I paused, "I'm going back upstairs. Making lunch,"

"I'll be there." He said, still looking around.

I went upstairs and made lunch for us. I wasn't used in making other food for another person. I've been alone for years. Pretty much a loner.

Lunch was up. Steve sat beside me. "Glad to see that you're used to all these things now."

He glanced at me, "Yeah. Some are a bit confusing, but I'm sure I'll learn easily." He chuckled, about to drink some of his soda. I was done eating, I played with the straw on my glass. 

"Just imagine how it would be like, if we did start to fight crime anywhere." 

"Back in the day, who were you with?" 

"I uh--fought with men in war, lots of em." 

"Didn't you have the right partner?" I looked at him, he paused for a moment. 

"I met this one woman, she was incredible, we got along." 

I paused as well. I see where this is going. I've heard about Peggy. "Did you love her?"

He looked down, "I guess so. That was a long, long time ago." 

I looked down, thinking about how I imagined Peggy. She must've been very beautiful, and smart. Unique, even. The reason why he fell for her. 

"Hey," he reached for my hand across the table,

"Yeah?"

His hand gripped tighter on mine, "I've never met anyone as unique as you." 

I stood up and turned away. "Don't say that, Steve." 

He moved closer to me, "Why not?" 

I sigh, "I don't know if I should just-" 

"Why? Cause we only met for a while, doesn't mean I can't fall for you easily." 

I turned to him, "Still-" 

"Do you love me?" 

I swallowed my pride, "Of course." I looked at him, "Do you?" 

He places his hand on my cheek, caressing it. "I do." 

"Should I trust you?" 

He looked into my eyes, "Yes, of course." 

"How?" 

He put his face closer to mine. He gave a smirk.
