Alison and Emily were able to see each other at school the next day. They told Spencer about the situation and she was extremely sympathetic with them. Ali even asked Spencer if she had another phone for Emily. Sadly, the answer was no.
After classes, Alison walked Emily home. She knocked the door, even though Emily had her keys. The door opened, a familiar woman in front of her. "Mrs. Fields, I'm in love with your daughter," Ali stated and glanced lovingly at her girlfriend and then back at Emily's mother, who had a frown on her face.
"You're crazy," Pam said and Emily past her in tears, going up the stairs to her room. Alison wanted to follow her and comfort her, but she just couldn't without having the last word.
"I'm sorry for you, Mrs. Fields, but I am crazy for your daughter and I won't apologize for that. I really don't care if you don't accept us, but I know that your opinion means a lot to Em and you being against who she is, it's just going to push her away. She'll still have me, of course, but you not being able to see through bullshit thinking for her makes me wonder how much you really love your daughter."
"I love Emmy with all my heart, but-"
"No buts. Feelings are so strong, you can't refuse them. Accept that. Don't be the person who refuses love to Emily when it's all she deserves."
"It's just... so hard-"
"It's really... not, at least for you." Alison couldn't sympathize with Pam after she made Emily cry, but she could still reason. "Emily struggled so much with how she feels, don't make it harder for her. Embers says: Love is free, you can't deny where it will go. We don't have control over our feelings, Mrs. Fields. Don't lose her over something that wasn't her choice."
"I don't wanna lose my Emmy." Pam bursted into tears, her mind clearing and her strong front broken. Now that's something Alison could understand, she'd been so close to losing Emily many times before just because of her actitude.
Alison made a bold move and took a step towards the sorrowing mother. She took her by the elbows, making her look at her in the eyes. "Then don't by going in there-" She motioned upstairs, where Emily was. "-and telling her you'll try to understand and come around."
Pam nodded, realizing her priorities and doing what Ali advised in a rush.
Now, on the Fields' porch, Alison didn't know what to do. Should she wait to make sure everything went well? Or should she go to her house because she's also grounded and isn't supposed to be out?
She decided to go to her house, she was sure Pam would know what to say after talking with her. Emily got her soft side from her mother and her kindness from her dad. They would figure it out, Alison was sure.
When Alison entered her house, she instantly shivered. It felt so cold here compared to the weather outside. She could no longer smell incense inside since Jason was thrown out.
She heard loud steps on the living room and then the backdoor closing. Alison stepped in and found her mother dropping on the couch. "What happened?"
"I told your father about getting a divorce and he didn't take it very well."
Alison sat next to her. "What did he say exactly?"
"I said we barely talk and see each other. We never even kiss anymore. He said it was my fault, that I stopped taking him to events when he was the one who didn't have time for them." Jessica scoffed. "How come it took me so long?"
"I'm sorry," her daughter said.
"Why?"
"You stuck with him because of me, didn't you?"
"That's not your fault. Just me being... scared, weak."
"You were wrong, you know? We can fear and using it to our advantage just gets us lonely."
Jessica knew she was right, but she would never admit that.
Alison stood up and walked to the backyard, where her father was sitting on a wooden chair, looking agitated. Maybe she should just turn around, but her feet kept going. "Hey."
He looked up at her and then back at his lap. "I'm not in the mood."
"You're never in the mood. Never in the mood to talk to mom. To me... You're only on the mood to make money, then get frustrated on it and take it out on Jason."
"Your mom said I put you guys to the side and it's true, I did. But I just want you to have everything you'll need in the future."
"I already have everything I need, dad. I'm in love."
Kenneth looked clueless. "With who?"
"Of course you wouldn't know. You're not in my life. Mom guessed it first try and she was almost as bad as you. At least she paid attention. You just... didn't care."
"Didn't you just hear me? I'm doing everything for you!"
"That's no excuse to don't spend time with me. You're like a father who never met his daughter, only you have and that makes it hurt. Love isn't about giving checks at the end of the month, so sign the contract and let mom be happy. It really is amazing, so sad I didn't know love from my family, if we can call it that."
"You're a DiLaurentis."
"And in a few years I'll make sure to change my last name because I'm not proud of being your daughter." Alison went back inside and stopped her tracks for a moment to take a breath. All the parent-drama messed up with her head. She was just fourteen and was already thinking about marrying Emily. But I guess that idea wasn't so crazy after all. Her and Emily were meant to be, their stars align.
