There are only six days till Halloween. Today I was carving pumpkins with my family and friends which included Jeremiah, Samantha, and Braxton. Ever since a few days ago, Braxton has been sitting with me during lunches.
I'm still upset about my other friends ditching me and I lost some happiness when they hung out with me less but Braxton has changed that. He is very kind and enjoys talking to me. The happiness that I had lost has started to fill back up. He is my friend. Friend. That word leaves a good taste in my mouth.
While awaiting for their arrival, I grabbed a couple bags of chips from the cupboard and put then on the counter in case they wanted food. I ran upstairs to my bedroom to change out of the stained, grey, sweatpants and baggy t-shirt, and into some light blue skinny jeans and a forest green loose but cute top with a pocket. I but my hair partially up in a bun because my hair is too short for a whole bun.
While I was finishing styling my hair, I heard the doorbell ring. I rushed down, tripping down the stairs in the process. This would have been fine except for the fact that my mom opened the door as soon as I fell. Jeremiah and Braxton were both on the midst of laughter. My face turned a bright red and they both rushed to help me up. It was almost as if they were racing to see who could help me up sooner. Braxton beat Jeremiah to it and pulled me up quickly, Jeremiah huffing in result. Braxton kept on asking me if I was alright. It was getting annoying.
"SHE SAID SHE WAS ALRIGHT, got it?" Jeremiah said in an irritated talk-yell voice.
We walked into the kitchen, Braxton bumping his chest against Jeremiah's shoulder roughly. They made eye contact, Jeremiah's hazel eyes meeting with Braxton's cold, grey eyes. We sat down along with my mother and brother.
"Hey Jeremiah." Braxton snapped his head toward me when I said Jeremiah's name.
"Where is Samantha?" Braxton's tension loosened once he heard another females name.
"Ohh, she couldn't make it, family stuff." Jeremiah broke his eye contact with Braxton and then sharpened his gaze towards him again.
The boys were on either side of me, the room was filled tension. I don't like being in the middle of it though. I broke the tension by starting some conversation and it went at ease a little but the boys were still at each other's necks the whole time. I helped Cameron with his pumpkin while everyone else was working on theirs. Braxton kept on arguing with Jeremiah about dumb things while I easedropped on them. Jeremiah gestured me to go to the other room. I walked to the hallway with him.
"Can we go somewhere more private."
"Ahh sure, the porch?" I said with a shrug.
"That'll work." We walked out front together quickly.
"Now what is it that you want?" I spit out of my mouth.
"I- Adunno. Something isn't right about your bleach blonde hair little friend."
"Just because I am hanging out with another guy, does not mean that they are a perv or anything." I sighed visibly.
"I know, just be careful around him will ya? I can't bare seeing you get hurt in any way." Jeremiah's eyebrows were scrunched up and his forehead was knotted.
"Thanks for always caring for me." I smiled and gave him a hug. "And you're not my dad." I said while my face was in the crook of his neck. He jerked away and hit me in the arm playfully.
"I am not your dad, I am like the older brother that you never had." Just great, I'm like his sister to him. I don't know what screams friend zone more than that.
"Let's head inside Jeremiah, Braxton is waiting, and why don't you loosen up some." He looked at me with that how do you know how I'm feeling look and we walked inside.
