Chapter 16

The rest of the week was kind of a blur.  My time was spent either studying, at the music store, or at school.  The boys had attempted to approach me numerous times to no avail; the only person I'd let in my room was Ben.

I had told Hazel about what happened with the blonde devils, but she didn't seem to care.  Not that I was surprised by that, Hazel usually does the opposite of what people tell her to do.  I did manage to get her to not tell anyone why I wouldn't talk to them though.

You're acting like childNo one is going to murder you if you socialize with them.

I had made a couple of friends at school who were fine with letting me sit and eat with them, all of which now had completely and utterly useless nicknames.

"Grace, breakfast is ready!" I hear Momma R shout up.  I had graduated from calling her Lilly to Momma R, much to her amusement.

I rush downstairs and try to sneak my plate of food up to my room without being seen, failing almost instantly by tripping on the bottom step and tumbling to the ground.

"Ouch." I mutter, as I quickly stand up.  I glance up the stairs, gasping softly when I see Noah standing above me with a smirk on his face.

"Want some help or can you manage to get to the table?" He asks, still smiling.

"I was actually just heading up to my room." I swallow.  He's not going to kill you.  Just GET OUT OF THERE!

"Why don't you come eat with us for a change?  Doesn't your room get lonely?  You're always in there."

"Uh, I think I'm getting sick, I don't really want any of you to get sick too." Cough for dramatic effect.

"Oh, well I guess I should let you go then." He frowns.

"That would be a good idea." I whisper.

I walk past him, but as soon as he's out of my line of vision he throws me over his shoulder, plate and all.

"That was the worst attempt at a fake cough I've ever heard." He says before carrying me back downstairs and sitting me at the table.

"Look who I found." He grins proudly at the others.

"Damn it." Cole pulls a five dollar bill from his pocket and hold it out to Noah, who happily pries it from his hands.

"You made me drop my breakfast!" I pout.  Momma R quickly raises her head to assess the damage done to the plate and her flooring.

"Noah, go clean up the poor girl's food.  Grace, dear, you can take Noah's plate, if you want."  She offers up the dish of bacon and hash browns.  Immediately, Noah's eyes widen in panic at the realization of what his mother was doing.

"No, mom, you can't give away my food!  I'm a growing boy, I need nutrition!  I could end up dead, or worse.  Do you really want that to happen to your favourite son?"  He asks.

"Who ever said you were my favourite?  You can stop at Tim Horton's on the way to school if you're hungry, you shouldn't have made Grace drop her food.  Maybe that'll teach you a lesson."   Hoots and hollars could be heard around the table and I shake my head.
