I try to take calming breaths while mentally going through my routine.  It's going to be fine.  You'll be fine.  Calm down.  Deep breaths.  Don't die.  If they don't like you, they will throw tomato's at me.   That last thought didn't help at all.

I check the time on the clock and decide to go backstage.  I walk down the long hallway to the big black room.  It was filled with people, and when I asked someone how they could have this many performers in an hour, they said that the whole show was at lease 5 hours.  It just had a nice ring to it.

After about five minutes, I hear my name being called.  I walked over to the woman who called me.

"You're on in five." She says.  I nod and walk to the curtained area.  I could see the outline of a girl doing acro.  I took a few calming breaths and closed my eyes.  When the girl finished, a man took the stage.  I assumed he was the host.

"Next up we have a girl named Grace who will be singing the song 'Firework' by Katy Perry." He leaves the stage just as I walk onto it.  Everyone in the room stared at me.  I saw the boys all watching me curiously.  Cole gave me a small nod of encouragement and I gave him a half smile in return.

I grab the mic from the stand and hear the instrumental begin.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag

Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin

Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

I think of my parents.

Do you ever feel already buried deep six feet under?

Scream but no one seems to hear a thing

Do you know that there's still a chance for you

'Cause there's a spark in you?

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine

Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause, baby, you're a firework

Come on, show 'em what you're worth

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"

As you shoot across the sky-y-y

I feel myself start to let go, and soon I'm jumping around the stage as I sing, pumping up the crowd.

Baby, you're a firework

Come on, let your colours burst

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"

You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

You don't have to feel like a wasted space

You're original, cannot be replaced

If you only knew what the future holds

After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you reason why all the doors are closed

So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road

Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow

And when it's time you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine

Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause, baby, you're a firework

Come on, show 'em what you're worth

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"

As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework

Come on, let your colours burst

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"

You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom

Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

It's always been inside of you, you, you

And now it's time to let it through-ough-ough

'Cause, baby, you're a firework

Come on, show 'em what you're worth

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"

As you shoot across the sky-y-y.

I finish the song breathlessly, and the applause overwhelms me.  Cole smiles at me and I grin back.  I walk off the stage and back to my dressing room.  Lilly, Hazel, and Autumn are already there waiting.

"You were amazing!" They all shout and hug me.

"Can't.  Breathe." I gasp.

"Sorry." They let me go.  "Let's get you ready for your dance!"  Soon I'm back in the robe, sitting in the chair, feeling myself relax.

*****

"Wake up!" I hear Hazel say in my ear.  I swat at the air beside me but hit nothing.  I slowly stand up.  All the girls are smirking at me.

"What?!  Performing is tiring!" I defend.

"Sure it is.  Put your outfit on and go immediately back stage.  You're on in 15 minutes." I inwardly groan.  What?  Backstage has too many people!

"Alright.  Shoo!  Go away!" When they leave the room, I glance at the garment bag.  I pull out a short white chiffon dress and a pair of black short-shorts.  I tug them on, then look in the mirror.  I leave one sock on half-way and take the other one off.

I make my way backstage where I am quickly told to go to the curtains and wait.  I stand there and go through a little bit of my routine.

"Once again, Grace will be performing.  Only this time, a dance." I hear the man say and I stay offstage until the music starts.  Then I walk on slowly.

I let the music take control over my body as I perform my choreography.  After I finish, the crowd goes wild.  The boys run up the stairs to the stage and hug me.  I laugh and we walk off together.

"That was incredible!" They say together.  I smile.

"I'm here to please." I courtesy.

"How is that physically possible.  If any of us did that, we'd rip a muscle.

"Been there done that.  It's called stretching, boys, it makes you flexible.  Plus, I've been doing it for around 15 years.  I started when I was 2." They gape at me.  "What?!  I like dancing!" I laugh.

"Well, you did well.  We'd better get back, see you later." They say and walk off.  All except one.

And he hands me a rose.

And yes, I know the song is old but it's still catchy.

P.S.  I know I already put a message at the top.  I put another one.  Deal with it. ;)
