Colleen's POV
"I mean, I guess it is kind of crazy. I mean, it's not every day that a YouTuber legit adopts one of their fans. But I think I'm doing the right thing..."
"Yes, I think you are too. I trust that you know what you're doing. If you ever need my help, you know you could call me," Rachel said.
"Thank you, Rachel. I think I'm going to go through with it. I don't know how to tell her though... or her parents... or our parents," I worried.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. "Come in," I said.
"Hi," Ava said, slowly opening the door.
"Hi love, I have a question for you," I said, shaking profusely. Would if she didn't want me to adopt her?
Rachel walked out, and I sat on the bed with Ava.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Well, uh... so, you know, we've gotten pretty close this summer, and I-I, um, you told me all of those things about your parents, and I was thinking, maybe, what if... I adopted you?" I asked nervously.
Ava's eyes lit up with happiness, but also confusion. "Really? You mean, you want me? T-To be your daughter?"
"Yes, Ava. I love you. And you deserve to be taken care of. I want to take care of you, I want to protect you, and I want to teach you," I said genuinely.
I noticed her eyes starting to get shiny with tears. I pulled her into the tightest hug I've ever given. We just sat there and cried and hugged for what felt like forever. I never wanted to let go of her.
Finally, we let go. Her face is covered in tears. "Colleen, how will I tell my parents? And what about my siblings?" she worried.
"As for your parents, don't worry, I'll figure it out. And... would you want me to take your siblings as well?"
"I don't know... won't three kids be a lot for you?"
"Maybe, but I love kids. And I have lots of family and friends who'd probably be willing to help me. I just want to do what's best for you."
"I mean, if you want to, then I guess take my siblings too... I'd miss them a lot if I didn't get to see them again," She said. "But, my parents... they'd be left with no children. I know it seems like they don't even want us, but what if they realize they do once they don't have us anymore?"
"I think they've had their chance to prove themselves. Plus, it's not like you'd never be able to see them again. Y'all could have phone calls once in a while... have visits, maybe. I know it's a lot to take in, and it's a lot of change, but don't worry. It'll be okay."
We discussed details for a little longer before it grew late. "Ava, it's kinda late, do you wanna go to sleep?"
"Yeah, but I don't wanna leave you. All of these emotions are making me feel a bit uneasy. I feel safe with you."
"Okay, you can stay here if you want."
As I started to lay down and get under the covers, she sat down on the edge of the bed. I sensed some discomfort from her. "It's okay... don't be shy," I told her. I understood, though. From the outside, it seems very strange to have a child her age and an adult my age sleeping in the same bed, but at the same time, I was going to be her mom anyway, and we'd grown closer than ever that summer. She laid down next to me, still on top of the covers. "Ava... it's fine, really." She reluctantly moved herself underneath the covers and almost immediately fell asleep.
We slept until late the next morning. I thanked Rachel for not waking us up; she knew lots had happened the night before, and we needed our rest. (A/N: that sounds kinda weird but u know what i mean lol) We decided to just stay in the cabin for the day so we could rest, plan things out, and just talk. I was looking forward to it.
A/N: Today is Colleen's birthday! Go wish her a happy birthday if you haven't already :)
