Sadie was laying on her twin sized bed with her eyes closed while she was trying to think of something fun to do. She was bored and tired all at once, except she didn't want to sleep or do anything she just wanted to stay still and do nothing for the rest of her life. Whilst Sadie's eyes were still closed she felt two hands push her directly off her bed and onto the floor. Sadie opened her eyes to see her stepmother standing above her.

"Have you finished you chores?" Her stepmother asked

"You mean have I finished doing everything that a mother is supposed to do in a house? No." Sadie said confidently

Her stepmother kicked Sadie's leg. "Don't talk to me like that."

Sadie sat against her bed and sighed.

"Do your damn chores Sadie." Her stepmother said waiting for her to stand and begin cleaning the entire house along with cooking dinner. Except Sadie just sat against her bed ignoring her mother, not caring if she was about to be beaten into the ground. Sadie felt a foot dig into her side. Sadie groaned in pain but staying in place. Sadie felt a hand grab her hair and start pulling her out of her room and into her kitchen.

"Chores! Now!" Her stepmom yells

"No!" Sadie screams loudly just as the doorbell rung.

"Stay here brat." Her stepmother ran to the door and opened it. Sadie couldn't see who was there but she didn't exactly care at the moment. Sadie walked up to the door wondering if she could get outside without being caught. All of the windows were bolted shut and the only exit was the front door. She saw who was at the door once she walked around the corner. It was a boy, the only boy that wasn't mean to her. Caleb.

"Hi, is Sadie home?" Caleb asked Sadie's stepmother.

"No she-" Sadie cut off her stepmother by walking up to the door.

"Yeah, I'm home." Sadie said glaring at her stepmother.

"Hey. Since your new to town and everything, I thought it'd be cool if I took you to tour around the neighborhood." Caleb smiles brightly

"Yeah! Yeah." Sadie smiles and walks outside.

"You can't. You don't have permission to go. We need to resume our talk." Sadie's stepmother says

"We can do that later." Sadie looks down at the ground.

Caleb whispers a single word to Sadie. "Run."
