Chapter 19

Musical Charm And Memories

Miranda's pov

I'm so excited. Uncle Jason picks me up. "Good luck sweetie." Dad says hugging me. We were driving to broken bow. "I can't wait. This is gonna be so cool!" "You're gonna have a blast. Touring and meeting fans." "That's only if they want me." "Honey I know these people. They're not stupid." I laugh softly. "Thanks for doing this for me." "No problem." We get to the studio and the businessy people look so sophisticated. I suddenly get nervous. "You've got this." Jason says, pushing me forward gently. "Oh wait!" He hands me my guitar and opens the door. "Knock 'em dead sweetheart." I walk into the room. "What're you gonna sing for us?" The first guy asks. "Miranda Lambert's What About Georgia." I say, lowering the mic enough for my short stature. I brush my hair back and play the tune on my guitar. "You draw it out like a highway. With every word that you say, excuses for the answers that ya lack! Your mama's still the ground ya walk on everyday and your daddy's still the monkey on your back."

~flashback~

Dad clapped me on the shoulder. "Great job!" He gasps. I pose for a picture and he prints it out and sticks it up for everyone to see.

~flashback over~

"Are you still a bullet in your daddy's gun! Don't forget boy you're your mama's only son! She's at home and shes been prayin' for ya! So what about Georgia!"

~flashback~

Dad and uncle Luke were teaching me to shoot. They made sure I know all about gun safety before I handled the weapon.

~flashback over~

"Austin's five and on his way, lookin' for shoes that he can fill. He said that he'd be just like you, the coolest guy ever knew! And he said he'd find ya when he lost his trainin' wheels. I looked into his big blue eyes and I saw you again! He's hungry for a life he isn't ready to begin!"

~flashback~

"But I wanna go with him!" "No. He's high. It's dangerous!" Dad had shouted. He closed the door and told David, a close friend of mine to get lost. The next day I found out he wrecked his truck and died. I would have too if I went.

~flashback over~

You say you're livin' on the edge but I think you're hangin' from a ledge, too scared to hold the hand... That wants to help you up! Are you the man you thought you'd be by the time that you turned 33 or are ya still a bullet in your daddy's gun! Don't forget boy you're your mama's only son! She's at home and she's been prayin' for ya! So what about Georgia!" I lower the guitar, trying to catch my breath.

~flashback~

It was so cold. I couldn't take another night, hungry and cold on the streets. When footsteps made me jump and want to run in fear but his gentle voice calmed me down and his warm heart gave me strength and faith in humanity.

~flashback over~

I look behind me breathless to see what Jason thought of it. My breath caught in my throat when I saw him wiping away tears while smiling at me. "Are you alright?" He nods. "That song..... It just made me think of my mom." I hug him. "Miranda, welcome to broken bow records!" I fight back the tears of relief and joy. "Thanks uncle Jay!"
