Chapter 10
Family is family
Miranda's pov
"Pull." I shout. He lets it loose and I aim and fire. It instantly shatters. My uncle Jason reloads it. I think I'm closest with him of any of my uncles because we share the love of music. The wind tugs at my hair so I fix it. "Ready?" He asks. I lower the gun and sigh softly. "You alright?" "I can't stop thinking about my aunt." "Who?" "My aunt Amanda. The one who called you and everyone else all those insulting things." I say, glaring at my gun. "If she's like that, what were my parents like? I barely remember them." "Don't think about that hun. That's not what you're like and that's all that matters." I force a smile. "You're right. Pull." He lets it go and I shoot it down. Just then dad walks over. "Good family shootin'?" He asks. I nod and lower my gun again, hugging him. We go back to the lodge.
Willie's pov
Jason looks upset about something. I walked over. "Dude, you okay?" His eyes stayed glued on Miranda, that worried look in them. "Poor kid." He says, scratching his arm. "What?" "Ya know that chick that showed up bad mouthin' us?" I nod confused. "She really got to her I think." I'm super confused.
Jason's pov
I tell him what she told me. "I wish that girl never found her." "You and me both, Willie." I mutter worried. I left him and walked to her. "You're okay right?" "About what?" "You know what, sweetie." "I... I'm fine... You're right anyway. I am nothing like my aunt. I love being a Robertson. With my nutty uncles, my reverend father and my amazing mother, not to mention my sexy deaf boyfriend." Jeez. "You're definitely Willie's daughter." She laughs. "What do you mean?" "He does what he can to embarrass us." I say, smiling. Luke sits down at the fireplace, giving me that look. "Jam session?" She asks excited. I smile and nod.

I take my place with my guitar and pick. "Tonight I'm running the show." I say, smiling confidently. Uncle Jason sits down beside Luke. "They're there for your first year, give you your first beer, when you get your heart broke they're there for your worst year. Don't get you at all, but your apple don't fall too far from 'em. They own too much wicker and drink too much liquor, you'd wash your hands of 'em but blood's always thicker."
Willie's pov
Where'd this song come from?! "Family is family in church or in prison. You get what ya get and ya don't get to pick 'em they might smoke like chimneys but they'll give you their kidneys yeah friends come in handy but family is family." She gets through that whole song. "D-Did you write that?" I shakily ask shocked. She nods, turning red. "A few days after that whole mess." She mumbles smiling. "I wouldn't want anyone as my family. Not who my parents were before. Especially not my aunt. You guys are the closest family I've got." I hug her tight. "You're my little girl. No matter what." I say. "And I wouldn't want it any other way."
*later*
Miranda's pov
I laid down for bed that night, happy to be here. "I love my family so much." I whisper, tiredly.
