'These are my absolute FAVORITE!' Maya yelled as she took a bite of one of the tacos she had on her plate.
Riley giggled and took a chip from the bowl of nachos in the middle of the table. 'Maya loves taco bell'. She tells Lucas while he watches in amusement as Maya falls in love with her food.
Riley watched as Lucas' attention was set on Maya and she frowned on the inside. She grabbed another chip from the bowl and turned to Lucas who was sitting right next to her.
'Here, try it.' She said as she put the chip close to his mouth. He chuckled and opened his mouth and chewed it, giving Riley a smile.
'Delicious.' He said to her as she smiled back at him.
At this moment, Maya couldn't have cared less if Riley was winning his attention. All she cared about right now was her food and how tasty it was.
'So,' Lucas said as he finished taking a sip from his drink, 'who's Charlie Gardner?' He asked suddenly
Maya rolled her eyes and put the taco she had in her hand down, tapping her heel on the ground. 'One Of Farkles friends.' She said, annoyed.
Riley turned towards him and placed her right leg on top of her left in a sophisticated manner and rested her arm on the table.
'When Farkle first left us, it was really hard on both of us. Especially for Maya, so she decided that she would date one of his friends to try and get close to him again.' Riley said to Lucas.
He nodded his head and took another sip.
'It was stupid of me to use him like that. He found out a while later and broke up with me. He was so upset he called me a slut and told all the kids of our freshman class that I still wore training bras. It was a disaster.' Maya said, chuckling a little.
'What a jerk,' he said to her as he took another sip from his drink.
'Yeah, a real jerk,' she paused, 'But that didn't matter to me though, what really mattered was that Farkle was nowhere around to stand up for me. He would just stand there and watch as the other kids made fun of me. He was my best friend and he didn't even care.'
Maya pushed her plate aside and and crossed her arms, her appetite suddenly disappearing.
'I know it probably sounds so stupid that I'm so hurt. I had no right to think that he would stand up for me when he had already dropped us but I had just hoped that maybe he would have...' She said to them, pouring out her feelings to her new friend.
'He promised he would always be there for me.. for us,' She whispered quietly as she shook her head and quickly turned her frown into a smile, not wanting to seem anymore vulnerable than she already did, 'But that doesn't matter anymore, right Riles? We have you now and that's all that matters.' She looked up to him and touched his arm, 'I really like you.. We really like you and we hope you stick with us through everything. No matter what.'
He looked into those blue eyes of hers and his heart went soft for her. This wasn't the Maya Hart everyone seemed to describe, the cold hearted witch that cared for no one but herself and Riley. He liked this Maya. 'I'm not going anywhere,' he said to her as he place his hand on top of hers, 'I promise.' He looked over at Riley and smiled at her, a tender smile.
Maya smiled on the inside and out, happy she felt safe enough to tell him things that felt personal to her and even happier that she knew she had Lucas wrapped around her pretty little finger. She knew that if she showed her more 'emotional' side, she'd have him in no time.
Riley looked over at Maya and then at Lucas, smiling her Riley smile and putting her hand on his shoulder. 'You should come over to Maya's house today,' she said to him, her eyes shining with hope, 'we go over to her house after school to do homework and then gossip and what not.' She giggled at the last part and he chuckled.
'Sure, I'd love to come over. I'll follow you guys after school. We can meet up at your guys' lockers after last period?' He asked.
Both girls let go him and nodded their heads. 'Sure,' Maya looked down to her phone and shot up from her seat, 'we have 15 minutes to get back to school! We can't be late!!' She said as the other two grabbed their trays and stood up.
'Hmm,' Lucas said as he looked at Maya and smiled.
She scrunched her nose and bit her bottom lip. 'What is it?' She asked as he chuckled. 'You just don't seem like the type to care if you're late.'
They all began walking towards the exit doors. 'Oh, she doesn't. But fifth period is Art class. God forbid we ever be late to that or else Maya would flip out.'
Maya rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. 'You like art, pancakes?' He asked her as they arrived to her car. She unlocked it and they all got in.
'There's a lot of things you don't know about me,' She paused and looked at him, a chuckle escaping her lips, 'Pancakes?'
She turned her car on as they buckled up, Riley in the passenger seat with Lucas in the middle of the backseat.
'Yeah, I decided that if you get to give me a nickname, then you get the same.'
Riley turned around to face him and smiled at me. 'What's my nickname, Lukey?' She asked him.
'I think I like your name to much to change it.' He said to her as his cheeks went red and she giggled.
Maya pretended to vomit as Riley turned back around and started driving back to school. The car filled with laughter and song.
