Riley Matthews and Maya Penelope Hart.
The 'dynamic duo' of Abigail High is what they called these two best friends.
They were literal friend goals, they had the kind of friendship you could only imagine having.
They were absolutely perfect, from their looks to their personality. Riley was the beautiful, kind soul whom you could tell everything too. She cared for everyone and saw the good in people when no one else did. She was perfect.
Maya was also beautiful but she was far from kind. She only ever cared for herself, her family and Riley. She was sarcastic and mean but she stood up for people who couldnt stand up for themselves and people loved her because of that.
They were friends with everyone and everyone loved them. Their group of two was tight and difficult to break apart. Extremely difficult, maybe even impossible to.
They did absolutely everything together. From having the exact same schedule to sharing clothes to cars to boys.
Yes, you read that correctly, they even shared boys.
Well, they 'shared' a boy.
Their junior year of high school, while the two girls were in their fourth period economics class, their principal, Mrs. Kaypur, walked in, a young, blonde man by her side.
'Hello class, sorry to interrupt your learning session,' she said crossing her arms and tapping the ground with her black, pointy heel, 'but you all have a new student today. Everyone please welcome Mr. Lucas Friar to the class.'
The whole class murmured a small 'hello' and the teacher walked over to them, whispering something to the boy and he nodded his head, sitting right behind miss Maya Hart.
Mrs. Kaypur exited the class and the teacher continued his lesson.
The boy sat down, shyly sliding into his seat and folded his hands in front of him, his gaze focused to the front of the class.
Maya Hart turned around and smirked at him, looking at his blue, plaid shirt and simple faded blue jeans. She looked down to his feet and saw his worn out black Nikes and chuckled to herself.
He wasn't handsome like Farkle Minkus, but he wasn't ugly. She felt somewhat intrigued to find out more about this 'Lucas Friar'.
She looked to her right, where her best friend was and nodded her head towards him, signaling to her to look at him.
Riley took one look at him and raised an eyebrow at her best friend, shaking her head and turning towards the front of the class again.
Maya rolled her eyes at her best friends gesture and shifted her body to the front and continued writing her notes until the end of the class.
The bell rang and the two friends walked out of the classroom, ready for lunch, conversing about the new boy just like the rest of the class was doing.
"Lucas Friar", Riley says to Maya as they walk to their lockers which was conveniently right next to their class.
As Maya was about to open it, the very last of the class exited the room and with them was the new boy, the very last one leaving the classroom and closing the door behind him.
Maya made eye contact with him and she smiled at him, biting her bottom lip as he smiled nervously back at her and walking away quickly.
'You're disgusting Maya.' Riley watched as her best friend 'flirted' with the new boy and gagged. She continued as she placed her economic book in her locker and shut it.
'Jealous?' She responded to her.
Riley scoffed and rolled her eyes, leaning against her locker and flipping her long brown hair over her shoulder. 'Please, I could have him smiling at me if I wanted him to.'
Maya laughed and rolled her eyes back at her. 'Please Riley. You wouldn't know how to talk to a guy even if there was a book for it.' Maya laughed at her funny remark and checked her hair in the little mirror on the door of her locker and fixed any little hair out of place.
'Are you saying I can't get a boyfriend?' She asked, feeling hurt that her best friend would think such a thing but then quickly getting over it. Nothing Maya said ever hurt Riley's feelings, they were to close to let anything they said to one another hurt them. They knew they loved each other and that was all that mattered.
Hart chuckled and added some gloss to her plump lips, 'Riley, I love you and you know it but.. you're to, how do I say this, you're to Riley. To shy and weird. A good weird though. Boys wouldn't understand.' Maya replied to her as she smacked her lips and winked at herself in the mirror.
'I feel offended you would think that and you know what P, I'm gonna get that guy to be my boyfriend.' Riley said to her, not sure if she could truly go along with it.
Maya laughed and turned to her best friend. 'You couldn't even if you tried Hun and I tell you this as your best friend because I love you. You can't get Lucas Friar,' she said, a bit annoyed at her, 'you don't even think he's cute.'
'You didn't think Charlie Gardner was cute but you dated him anyways,' Riley said back, raising a brow at her.
'That was different Riley and I already told you, not a even a guide to get a boyfriend could help you.' Maya said back, even more annoyed that she would bring up someone like Charlie Gardner.
Riley raised a brow at the words that had just come out of Mayas mouth and smirked. 'Well then I guess we'll just have to find out, won't we peaches?' She said to her, sparking the start of a newly birthed competition.
Maya raised her brow back and closed her locker, looking at Riley and smirking.
Fine, Maya thought, if war is what you want, then war is what you get.
'Bring it on, honey', she said back to her.
'But there will be rules, as there is rules in everything we do Maya,' Riley said to her as they walked together to the parking lot of the school.
'Whatever you want honey,' Maya said to her, 'we can have as many rules as you'd like and I'll still win'. Maya winked at Riley as they opened the front doors of the school and exited the property, walking to Rileys white BMW.
'We'll see about that May,' she said back to her in a teasing manor.
