It was exactly 2:43 AM and the three were in Maya's living room, a slice of already cold pepperoni pizza in each of their hands."Okay, okay. Would you rather only ever eat Taco Bell or Chick-fila-A forever?"
Maya nodded her head and took a bite from her half-eaten pizza, "Definitely Taco Bell, I can't live without their nachos," she said with her mouth full of food.
Riley fake gagged at the sight of Maya's chewed up food and she laughed, causing Lucas to do the same until the three of them were laughing along with each other.
There was something between the three that just made sense. It felt meant to be that Lucas' father had lost his job and was forced to move to New York.
And the three knew it.
The girls felt as if, Lucas had been the replacement they weren't looking for.
Riley looked over at Lucas after they had finished laughing and smiled at him. Giving him the sincerest smile and he blushed.
The two shared a moment while Maya sat on the floor, watching.
Riley was good at making people feel important and that look she was giving him was doing just that. She would have Lucas in no time and she feared she would lose, so she did the only sensible thing that came to mind.
She stood up and sat next to him, placing her puckered lips on his soft cheek and smiling.
"It feels meant to be that you're here with us, Lucas. Please stay." An innocent look across her face.
And she meant it. She wanted to win, of course, but she also really liked Lucas and hoped that he would stay with them.
His cheeks turned a rosy pink and he grabbed Maya's hand, caressing her fingers with his. "I'm not going anywhere Maya, you have my word." He looked into her eyes and smiled even more. Her eyes were hypnotizing and he found himself drowning in her color blue. His new favorite color.
