Kai was sitting against the wall, messing around on his phone as he heard the sound of the rest of his team training. He looked up to see Nya shoot a blast of water at Lloyd, and saw him shoot an orb of energy towards her in return. He looked back down to his phone, texting Skylar.
S: Sorry about you not getting to train
K: It's my own fault, actually. Morro's still a buttface though
S: At least he's helping us. Think about what could happen if he gets caught
K: What if he's supposed to help us? Then when we least expect it, he kills us in our sleep
S: Ur paranoid
K: But what if!
"Glad to see our little chat last night meant nothing to you."
Kai groaned, looking up at the master of wind. Morro's hair was ted back, so that he could train without it getting in his face.
Kai glared. "It didn't happen. I've erased that from my memory."
Morro scoffed. "Please, you know you're thankful."
Kai made sure no one was paying attention, before shoving his phone into his pocket, ignoring the text from his girlfriend. "Look, I still don't get why you brought me a crystal. Lloyd said - "
"Lloyd said, blah blah blah. Why do you listen to him?"
Kai suddenly became serious. "Because he's the leader, and our new master."
"Jeez, you sound like a slave," Morro commented. Why don't you just dump that Amber girl and marry him?"
"Hey," Kai replied, "don't be mad that I have a girlfriend and you don't."
Morro shrugged. I don't really care in all honesty. Girls aren't my type anyways."
Kai tilted his head in confusion. "So you're gay?"
Morro shook his head. "Bi. But I'm more attracted to guys than I am girls."
Kai nodded, then smirked. "So, you're attracted to me then?"
Morro sighed. "No. I'm not. You're too full of yourself. In fact, I have no idea how Skylar can stand a guy that ignores her texts because of his enemy." With those final words, Morro walked off, fuming.
Kai furrowed his brows. Had he said something wrong? He pulled his phone back out to reveal multiple texts from Skylar.
He groaned. Once again, he'd totally blown her off, and it was all Morro's fault. He shoved his phone back into his pocket, watching the others train. He was still confused about why Morro had decide to give him the crystal. He'd secretly been practicing his newer powers, discovering that he could now travel through the fire. Say, there was a candle at one side of the room, and there was another at the other end. Kai could now travel via the flame of the candle, and end up at the other end of the room. He didn't know if that had only started due to him drawing his power from the crystal, or if he'd had it all along. He'd be sure to try when his powers came back.
Finally, Lloyd held up his hand, signaling for the team to stop their training. He had a quick talk with Morro, before walking out the door.
Or at least, he got halfway through when a giant rock collapsed.
"Whoa!" Lloyd cried, jumping back just in time. The rest of the team rushed forward, pulling down their hoods. Morro walked forward, his powers at the ready.
"Zane, tell the girls to - "
Lloyd was cut off, going still, an ethereal green glow surrounding him.
"Lloyd!" The team cried out, running to him, but then Jay began to do the same thing, glowing blue instead.
"It's Diastro," Morro realized, watching as the other's began to do the same, glowing their respective colors. He jumped towards Kai, possessing him, and pulling away so that he wouldn't be affected.
'What are you doing?!' Kai's mental conscious screamed at him, but Morro stayed put, watching as soldiers broke down the wall, grabbing the unconscious team.
Leading them, was Diastro, whose wrinkled old face held a terrifying grin. Memories of Clouse's punishment flashed through Morro's mind, and Kai gasped, seeing the memory as if it were his own.
They watched with baited breath as they left, taking the team with them. When they were gone, Morro left Kai's body, holding him up.
"W-what, why did you possess me?!" Kai gasped. Morro shook his head, helping him stand properly.
"That spell doesn't work on someone with the mark. Since I was inside of you, you weren't affected."
Kai shook his head, recalling Morro's memories, which had been transferred to him. "You... watched Clouse... He, he killed him."
Morro looked down. "That's what happens when someone challenges the king, and loses." He revealed his mark, the Latin characters changing on his skin.
'One king, one rule.'
"What's the one rule?" Kai asked.
"Don't lose."
Kai sat down, holding his crystal. Suddenly, he stood up. "The girls! Will he go after them?!"
Morro's eyes widened. "Of course they will! Come on. Summon your dragon with the crystal. We can fly back to the bounty that way."
Kai nodded, summoning Flame, and pulling Morro on. The ghost clutched onto him as they took off, using his powers to make them go faster.
When they landed, they noticed the bounty was crashed into the mountain, splinters of wood everywhere, and small fires scattered all over the ship. Kai pulled the fire into him, absorbing it into his crystal. He ran to his sister's room, realizing quickly that they were gone, as was Misako.
"Oh no," he said to himself, falling to his knees. Morro sat next to him, running circles into his back. "They're all gone."
"We'll get them back," the master of wind promised, their feud all but forgotten as Kai sobbed into his hands. Morro knew how he felt, losing his family to the enemy. So they stayed there together, shivering from the vengestone snow.
Meanwhile, with the rest of the team, Lloyd woke up in a cell, finding himself in a new uniform, with lion's fur on his shoulders.
He heard a shout from the next cell over. It was Jay!
"Is anyone there! Hello? Why am I wearing zebra fur on my shoulders?! Where are my actual clothes?!"
"Jay, shut up," he heard Cole shout in response. "And why do you have zebra fur? Mine's grizzly bear fur."
"How strange, for I have owl feathers on mine," Zane chimed in. It seemed as f the whole team was there. Except for Kai, and-
"Leopard," Seliel cut in, appearing in the cell in front of Lloyd's.
"I have gazelle fur," Skylar said from Seliel's left, Nya appearing on the right.
"And I have giraffe," she added. She caught a glimpse of Lloyd. "Is that lion's fur?"
Lloyd nodded. "I think so. Have any of you seen Kai?"
"The Phoenix has yet to be caught," an old, croaking voice said. An old man walked through the hallway between the cells, power seeming to illuminate his figure. He had a small, thin beard, and very little hair on his head. Hiding whatever hair he did have, was a golden crown, and the mark of Diastro was a badge on his chest.
"Diastro," Lloyd whispered. The old king smirked at him. "I'm glad you know my name, Lion. You will make a fine warrior."
