Alex POV

I made my way down the stairs and into the breakfast chamber, and everyone was already seated and eating. My father noticed me come in.

"Well, Alexander, you finally join us. What kept you?"

"He was watching the sunset, then took forever to change." Lafayette answered for me.

"Son, you know that you can't spend your time doing such things, you have more important tasks that need to be handled."

My mother put her hand in his arm. "Let him have these happy moments. He won't really have time for them when he is king."

He sighed. "I know. Just try to be a little quicker next time."

I nodded and sat down. We are in silence for a few minutes before father spoke again.

"Are you looking forward to the festival?"

I nodded. "I always look forward to seeing what sweets are in the bakery. Why don't we ever buy anything from the villagers?" I questioned.

"If we bought something from one person and not another, they might get jealous and a riot might happen since they were not also noticed. So it is better just to look."

Well that's not going to stop me. There's a certain shop that needs to be paid a visit.

John POV

"Herc, are you almost done? Peggy still needs those dresses."

I was standing at the window watching people set up booths and further preparing for the festival, everyone hoping to impress the king into buying something.

"I'm coming!" I turned and watched as he came running down the stairs, dresses in hand, before tripping and falling down the rest of them. I ran over and helped him up.

"I never knew you to be the clumsy kind."

He glared. "Well I wouldn't have fallen if someone hadn't left a spool of thread on the stairs." I looked over and sure enough there a spool of bright green thread. I ran over and picked it up.

"I've been looking for this." Herc just grumbled and checked to make sure he hadn't ripped any of the dress seams when he fell. "Take these to the Schuyler's while I put the other clothes on display."

I grabbed them and headed out. I considered taking my horse, but they don't live too far away.

As I was walking through the streets, sweet aromas filled the air. You could hear people talking and the children laughing as they played. It was peaceful. I turned off the street path and into the woods. The oaks were tall and provided a lot of shade. The Schuyler's lived in a larger house just outside the village in the midst of trees. They said that they wanted to feel like they were away from everything while actually being very close.

I walked up to their door and knocked. The door opened revealing Eliza.

"Hi john! Are those our dresses?"

"Yep. Hercules finally got them finished."

I handed them to her and she invited me inside.

"Angelica, Peggy! John came with our dresses."

I turn and look at the stairs to see Peggy and Angelica shove their way down the stairs, both of them trying to be first.

"Finally!" Angelica exclaimed. "I feel like Peggy brought them to you a week ago!"

I laughed. "Well, I might've been here sooner if I wasn't getting chewed out for leaving a spool of thread on the stairs."

"I don't know about you two but I'm trying on mine." Peggy said. She and Angelica raced up the stairs again with Eliza calmly trailing behind them.

I could still hear them bickering when Eliza came down dressed.

She did a twirl. "Hercules really knows how to fix a dress."

He really does. I don't know how he does it.

"So, are you hoping to see a cute boy this evening?" She teased.

"I'm always looking. But I'm never satisfied. What about you, know any pretty girls?"

She blushed.

"Ah, so you do know someone."

"It's j-just the bakers daughter. Maria Lewis." ( ok so I'm rereading this and I just remembered that everyone wanted pegria and I realized I had started doing marliza.)

"I can hear the wedding bells already."

She grinned and playfully punched my arm.

"Whose wedding bells?" Peggy asked as they finally emerged.

"Eliza's."

Peggy ran forward.

"A girl had caught your eye!?! Finally!"

This is one of the reasons they're my friends. They accept me and I accept them.

"Well, I better head back before Herc sends the whole village out looking for me."

They saw me out the door and I gave a quick wave before walking down the path.
