Third POV

timeskip about two months

"Alexander, you can't just hide in your room all night. You have to socialize!"

"But people are weird and stupid and just no!" Alex shouted back through the door to Lafayette.

Laf frowned. "You're basically saying that includes John."

"What! No no no, everyone else sucks except for him. You're ok, I guess."

"Alex, just open the door and let me come in."

Alex slowly, like, slower than a sloth slowly, made his way to the door, unlocking it.

(Geez that was a lot of commas)

Lafayette pushed past him into the room. He headed over to the closet and pulled out the clothes that he specifically had to wear.

"Just make it through the night, and then you can be antisocial. I might even distract Mother and Father to let you sneak out to see John."

Alex sighed, knowing that this was something he couldn't pass up.

"Fine. But I'm not wearing that jacket."

                                   ••••••

He finally emerged from his room, his hair pulled back and wearing his formal ball clothes. He had replaced the jacket with the one John had given him. Grumbling, he followed Laf down the stairs to meet with their parents.

Martha noticed them first as they neared the bottom.

"Boys, there you are! We can't be late to our own ball."

They both mumbled apologies before following the couple into the ballroom, where hundreds of guests were already gathered. The orchestra stopped playing as they stepped inside. A servant stepped up and announced them, but Alex zoned out during the entire thing. Balls were not his thing. He was forced to dance with people he didn't know, and most of the time there was a flock of girls following him like puppies. He never enjoyed any of it.

The orchestra started once again, and Lafayette moved into the crowds to mingle, leaving Alex alone. He scanned the crowd, hoping to spot a familiar face when someone grabbed his hand and turned him around to dance with him.

He made a surprised noise, only to see that it was Peggy.

"Peggy, please don't do that again. You about gave me a heart attack."

"Sorry." She giggled. "You looked a little freaked out so I thought 'hey this is the perfect time for Peggy to the superhero and save the damsel in distress'."

"I'm not a damsel in distress."

"Well, you had a pretty distressed look on your face."

They twirled a bit as they talked about aimless things until Washington called for the music to stop and make an announcement.

"If I can have your attention please."

They stopped and faced him along with everyone else.

"I would like to announce that we have made an agreement with our neighboring kingdom of Casian. The king and I have decided that to stronger our alliance, he is giving his daughter Princess Kitty to marry my son, Alexander."

(That's right people kitty Livingston has arrived)

Alex stared at his father as he made the announcement. As soon as the speech was over, he raced over to him.

"Why am I the one being married off? I'm not even going to be King first. Why can't you find someone for Lafayette?"

Washington sighed. "Son, she's closer to your age than she is to your brother. We wanted to stronger an alliance, so he offered his daughter to be married to one of you. She's his only daughter. It had to be you. I'm sorry." He turned and walked away, speaking to more guests.

Alex gave a frustrated sigh and headed back over to Peggy.

"Are you alright?" She asked. He grabbed her arm.

"Where are Angelica and Eliza?"

"I think they're around here somewhere. Why?"

"I need you to find them and meet up with me at the staircase. I've got to go find Laf."

She nodded and headed off to find her sisters while Alex dragged Lafayette away from the group of people he was speaking to.

"Alex, what is it?"

"Yknow how earlier you said you'd cover for me next time I snuck out?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, looks like now is the time." He turned to walk away but Lah grabbed his shoulder, turning him back around.

"I'm going with you."
