They watched as Alexander pulled out a small bag filled with gold coins. They stared it in awe for a moment.

"Is this enough?"

They were still staring at the bag when Hercules finally gave a slow nod. Alex smiled and moved around to look at different articles of clothing.

His eyes fell upon a pear colored coat with frills around the collar, shiny brass buttons lining the side. It had a few intricate patterns sewed into the bottom in a soft yellow, the patterns being small swirls and loops, barely noticeable.

He ran his fingers across the soft fabric. He turned to the pair.

"I'm not allowed to buy anything from the village. So I will come later on my own and pick it up."

He set the bad of coins down on John's desk.

"I'll leave this with you to spare the trouble of carrying it around."

He smiled and walked out, leaving the two flabbergasted. John picked up the bag and dumped the contents onto his desk. He started counting it when Hercules came up behind him.

"So? How much is there?"

John grinned. "Enough to buy a new cart so you can try to sell some of our clothes in a bigger town! We both know you've been trying to do that for years."

He moved John out of the way.

"Is there really that much?"

John nodded and grinned. They both cheered as they gathered up the coins and set off.

Alex waited for every light to be blown out before he quickly flew off to return to the shop. He had gotten a fancy for the freckled man and was hoping to see him again. He finally came into view of the shop and quietly landed, giving a soft knock on the door.

The door was opened to reveal the freckles man, holding a candle.

"Oh! Your highn- I mean, Alex. We weren't expecting you this late."

He backed up and let Alex inside and quickly closed the door. He went into a back room and emerged with the coat, which he had out there for safekeeping.

Alex took it and tried it on to make sure it fit. He had to fold back his wings, but he didn't mind. He turned to face the man.

"This is very well made," he paused, not knowing his name.

"John." The man smiled. "My name is John."

Alex returned the smile. "It's very beautiful. Thank you."

He nodded and stepped outside where he took off the coat and flew off.

John stood at the window watching him. He gave a small sigh before heading away from the window.

He saw Hercules standing there with an eyebrow raised.

"What?" John asked.

"You like him."

John felt his cheeks turn pink.

"N-no I don't."

Hercules grinned and headed up the stairs.

"Sure you don't."
