Every year on Mother's Day, Ren and Yoko would go to Melonette's grave. Their mother's grave. Yoko would place a rose on the grave, and say,
"Happy Mother's Day, Mom. I love you..." Then she would give Ren a hug and head home without him, for she knew he was only pretending to be okay, and wouldn't let out his emotions in front of her. And though she was young, she had learned that it's not healthy to bottle up your feelings. When she left, Ren would kneel down by the grave, and set down a rose just like Yoko did. Ren remembered a little better than Yoko, and he was also quite close to his mother. Placing one hand on the ground, and the other over his heart, tears slipped out of his eyes. He clenched his fists, trying not to fall apart.
"I'm sorry, Mom... I love you.. I-I could have saved you... It's my fault you're gone, I shouldn't've been so clueless.." He said. This year, as he spoke those words, he felt a hand being placed on his shoulder. He slowly looked up, and saw Melonette's spirit, smiling at him.
"It's okay, Ren. It's not your fault. So stop beating yourself up, okay? I love you..." She said, placing her hand on his cheek. He stared at her, fighting off tears. He put his hand over hers, but she disappeared a second later. He drooped like a a flower which was losing it's life. He held himself up with one hand against the ground. His hair fell over his face, as a few last tears slipped out of his eyes, off his face and onto the ground.
Soon, Ren pulled himself together, and stood up. He took one last look at the grave, then headed for home.
