With his both hands he gripped the branch tighter and got ready to push his sister towards the shore. She might get hurt, but at least she would be safe.
He set his feet apart so that he had a strong stand.
"You ready, Janie?" he asked. The fear in his eyes gave way for sheer determination. The stormy grey that his eyes used to have seemed now a hard a steel to Jane. She could barely recognize her reckless and daring brother anymore.
Slowly Jane nodded.
