Only slowly the cracks spread out.
The ice wouldn't hold him much longer either. 

Jane laughed as she remembered that time they played in the fields. That short chuckle was half from nervousness and half from amusement and died down in an instant. 

"Try it, Janie." He said smiling and took another step. "Walk towards the shore." The shore being her rescue. Being the only way William could save his precious little sister.

Carefully Jane lifted one leg high and took one big step. More cracks appeared in the ice.
"Will?!" She exclaimed fearfully.
Her eyes were opened wide and filled with dread. Will has never seen her as scared as in that moment.
