It had been four hours since I had gotten here, almost three since we went downstairs to start baking.
Let me tell you: it's amazing.
Right now we were making a cake for fun, since we had finished the other things.
"Ahh! I'll get you back for that!" Marinette squealed when I threw a fistful of flour at her. She was chasing me around the bakery, and we didn't care the least about the mess we were making. Flour and Confectioner's sugar covered the countertop and the tile flooring, but nothing had touched the perfect cake we had frosted. All we had to do was decorate it now .
~~
"Did you finish mixing the royal icing?" She asked. I grabbed a heart-shaped bowl from the other side of the counter. "Yep, where'd you want it?" "Right beside the decorations, if there's room." She motioned at it with her head- she was mixing something to pour on top of the cake that I forgot the name of- I think it started with a g, but I'm not sure. Her hair had fallen out of her pigtails and in front of her face, and I hadn't seen anything cuter. I almost tripped on my way to the counter and almost spilled the frosting because I was admiring her face when she was focused. She laughed and told me to "Be careful, or you'll wind up with a face full of frosting, and that wouldn't be good!" I smirked. "What do you mean? I'm sure it'd taste sweet, with all the sugar you added." She rolled her eyes and held up her (pointer) finger. "Wait, why would you say it'd taste-" Her face went red with realization. "ADRIEN AGRESTE!" I held up my hands in surrender so she wouldn't whack me with the towel on her shoulder.
~~
"Alright. So- how do I do this?" I asked her. I had a piping bag full of the icing I managed not to spill. She gazed at me through the corner of her eyes and smiled, setting the broom she was sweeping up flour with against the counter. "So all you have to do is put pressure at the top of the bag and press downwards to push out the icing- you'll want to do it in a wavy line pattern around the edge," She motioned. "That's all there is to it!" She noticed my uncertainty. "Don't worry, you'll do great." I started piping , and it came out way too fast and made a mess. I put my hand over my forehead, trying to hide my face that was red from embarrassment. I was about to apologize but she stopped me, saying that "It's fine, just an accident. It's your first time, and the cake isn't ruined. And hey- even if it was, we could just throw it at each other, like we did with everything else." She laughed and it was contagious. I found myself clutching my midsection and Marinette was almost doubled over against the counter.
-AFEWMINUTESLATER-
"Here. I'll help you this time." She stood at my side, almost behind me, and put her hand over mine. I was glad she couldn't see my face, because I was sure it was turning red again.
Her hand was soft and smaller than mine, and she guided me through icing the cake.
It looked awesome, and I was glad that we had done it together. I was a far cry from a 'Master Baker', but I think she'd taught me well. Maybe I'd pretend that I couldn't ice it next time so we could do that again.
Who knows?
I stepped back and put my hands on my sides, untying the green apron she had given me and admiring our work. She put her arm up on my shoulder. "I told you," she smiled and looked up at me. "But we're not done, of course."
What?
She pulled out the sheet of decorations from behind her back. I blinked my eyes and and put my hand behind my neck, smiling and acting like I knew that it was what she was talking about, not... something else ."Uh, Yeah! I, um, almost forgot about them." Her eyes widened and she shook her head, mumbling something about a 'dirty mind' and 'how she was going to deal with this without dying'. I acted as innocent as I could, talking up about the decorations. "Uh, wow! You made these, right? Awesome job! They're- Cat paws and ladybugs?" I looked more closely at the green, black, and red cake decorations.
"I didn't know you were such a fan, too." I grinned.
(This was just 'fluff', yet it was 780 words, AKA the longest chapter! Happy thanksgiving, y'all.)
