A/N Incase you were wondering, I'm writing this over my impromptu "Christmas break" 🎄 to post afterward, but I've taken a break to get myself organized :) Love you all.
It was a little before 8:30 when we finished with the beautiful cake- finished decorating it and eating a sizable part of it. We had decided on watching a movie and then going to sleep, since it wasn't late yet and neither of us was actually going to sleep when it was this early. The air of awkwardness that had seemed to surround us when I first came was gone now, and we were just having fun like we had known each other our whole lives.
Let me tell you, I've been missing out.
"You can go up to my room and pick out a movie- I've got to grab the power cable for my laptop." She pointed upstairs. "You remember where it was, right?" We laughed and I made my way upstairs. It was the only room up there, and the only way to get up there led straight to her room. Somehow the way was imprinted into my brain."Wow, that's lot of designs!" I marveled. They were detailed and had a sense of style to them that seemed to be their own, original, yet they somehow incorporated other styles. "Mari, you're really amazing at this! These are awesome!" I was beaming at her when she walked in her doorway. She smiled and almost looked down for a moment, unsure of what to say. "I have a passion for designing things," she plugged in her laptop while I continued to leaf through her sketchbook, after I had asked permission to. "And making them a reality- My grandma taught me basic sewing, and I guess I just went on from there." All I could say was "That's awesome!" Before I got lost in the sketches. It almost seemed like a little part of her soul had gone into each one, making them shimmer and come to life. I was truly amazed.
"Do you really think I should? Or I could, even?" She was looking into my eyes. Wait, had I said something? "Huh?" She lowered her gaze for a moment, tugging at her jacket sleeve. After taking a deep breath she looked back up at me. "You said that I need to work for your family's company. That I would save it. Do you really think so?" Wait- I had said that ALOUD? "Definitely- you make everything you touch come to life. I've never seen anything like that before, but I didn't mean to pressure you or anything." I probably could've worded that better to make it less awkward...
Marinette just smiled, set down the stack of movies she had and started laughing. "You know, I- I never thought-" She shook her head. "Never thought that I would, well- it's silly." She stood up and walked over to me. "Thank you." I hugged her, and after a moment of surprise, I realized how warm she felt, and how oddly natural it was. I was suddenly energized, knowing that if Marinette was here, everything was going to work out perfectly fine and that I would never end a day without a smile on my face.
"I guess what I said earlier was true," I whispered. "You make everything you touch come to life."
