Since I've been back from prison, Babydoll has been acting kind of off. I feel that something must have happened that she isn't telling me. We were walking back from the coffee shop and she seemed a bit distant. "Babydoll, are you feeling alright?"
"Hm?" She turned to me, "Oh yeah, I'm fine."
"You've been pretty distant recently, are you sure?"
She cleared her throat, "Yeah, I just think I'm getting a cold and I don't wanna get you sick."
"Well, as long as I'm with you I don't care if I get sick or not" I smiled at her. She gave a half smile and slowed down a bit to let me walk beside her. As we continued to stroll down the sidewalk, I noticed a familiar face, and not a good one. I looked down and started picking up my pace.
"Wait babe, why are you walking faster, you literally just told me that I was being too distant?" Babydoll questioned me.
"I didn't even notice babydoll, but come on let's get you home since you aren't feeling well." I continued walking a bit faster.
"Patrick? Is that you?" The familiar face asked, blocking my way down the sidewalk.
I stopped in my tracks and looked up. "Oh, hey Brendon, um how are you?"
"I am doing fantastic, thanks for asking. And who is your friend over here?" Brendon replied, gesturing towards Babydoll.
"Uh, this is my girlfriend, Dani." I answered him.
"It's very nice to meet you, Brendon." She shook his hand.
"Wow Patrick, a girlfriend. Didn't expect that from you. Haha." He grinned, returning Babydoll's handshake.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"Woah don't take offense to that, I mean don't get me wrong, you can get a girl, but she just looks waaayyy out of your league." He chuckled. What does he mean by that?
I gave him an "annoyed by his presence" look and responded with, "I guess". I'm not the best at handling confrontation, so I just left it at that.
"Well, I must say, props to you for getting the luckiest catch in the sea. Anyways, tell Pete to get in touch with me as soon as he can, I need him for the big delivery coming up soon. And don't worry, I'm gonna need your help with it too, just remember not to get caught this time. I can't keep bailing you out every time." He laughed
"He bailed you out? I just assumed they found out you were innocent, Pat. What the hell did you deliver?"
"Oh shit, she doesn't know? That's never a good idea Patrick, you can't lie like that in a relationship." Brendon said mockingly, looking way too smug for revealing those details.
"It's nothing, Dani, I'll tell you when we get back home." I said, trying to reassure her about the matter at hand.
"You can tell me right now Patrick, I don't think Brendon cares since he's already fully aware of the situation."
I started rubbing my neck anxiously, "Um, well.." I was trying to figure out an excuse when Brendon interrupted.
"Not here. There are people watching."
"Patrick, c'mon you can tell me. I can assure you nobody around us is watching us that intently." She tried to convince me.
Brendon was clearly chuckling to himself while watching all of this go down.
I sighed, "Alright well, it kind of has to do with..... drugs." I whispered.
"Huh? Did I hear you correctly?"
"Yeah, unfortunately."
"So you're meaning to tell me that, you, Pete, and this guy-" She pointed to Brendon who had a shit eating grin on his face, "Are involved with transported drugs?"
"Well, yeah, they're involved but I just did it this one time-"
"One time?" Brendon snickered.
"Patrick?" She sounded disappointed.
"Okay, I had to be a part of this life because I owed Pete for a situation that happened from years ago."
"If only you told me this sooner, babe."
"I didn't want you to get a bad impression of me. I'm not this type of person. And I knew that if I told you beforehand that you wouldn't have stayed around. I don't even do drugs."
"That I can vouch for." Brendon added. "Well, I'm finna get going. See you two around, And don't forget Patrick." And he finally leaves.
"C'mon Babydoll, let's get going." I insisted, she responded with a nod and we returned home soon after that.
After returning home, I thought about what Brendon said. "You know babydoll, we should both be honest."
"W-What do you mean by that?" She stuttered, looking at me anxiously.
"Well, I'm just saying that you don't need to be hypocritical." I examined her, "You're in perfectly good health, you're clearly not sick. What is it babydoll?"
"Um.." She hesitated. "So you know how I take my birth control, well... I kinda missed a day."
I felt my heart drop, "Wait, so what you're telling me..."
"Oh, no I'm not pregnant. I got my period and I am just moody. I went to the doctor while you were gone and he said that I just have to wait after my next period before I can start it up again. And here it is haha" She smiled awkwardly.
"BABYDOLL!!! YOU ALMOST GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK!" I raised my voice. "Sorry for yelling but, for Christ sakes."
"It's okay. I mean you did tell me to be honest."
"Alright from here on out, no more hiding anything from each other. Okay?"
"Yes Patrick, I love you." She wrapped her arms around me and looked up at me.
"I love you too babydoll." I hugged her back.
