Scarlett woke up groggily on a Saturday morning in her comfortable bed. She had a nice dream, and was in a good mood. However she was still half asleep and stubbed her toe against her desk, which made her yelp out in pain. She had gotten up earlier than her mom and dad and hoped that it didn't wake them up. As she sat down and held her foot she looked around her room.
It was a medium sized room with a slanted ceiling, but it was more room than she needed. She had a small bedside table next to her bed, which was pressed up against the right wall aligned with her door. She had a closet on the opposite side of the room with all of her clothes and a small shelf under her clothes rack that held all of her shoes and pants. She had a desk that was against the wall next to her door, which explains why she stubbed her toe when she tried to walk out the door. The walls were a simple grey color with a dark purple against the wall with the door.
She liked her room. Spent a lot of her time in it. Behind the line of houses she lived in was a large park with a small lake. If she wasn't in her room she was out there hanging with friends, swimming in the lake, walking her dog, or just relaxing. She looked out the window.
It was a beautiful day, the sun was coming over the tops of the trees and there were few clouds in the sky, so she had a feeling it was gonna be an ok day. She could hear a very faint sound, like a dog panting coming from down the street, so she looked over in its direction. Dustin was in a pair of strange looking camo pants and a tight tank top, and he was running. Looked to have been running for awhile.
His face was a deep red and his eyes were glassy, he was also breathing very heavily. She was about to walk outside, but realized she was only wearing a sports bra and Nike pros. So she quickly threw on a pair of clean, neat jeans and a tank top with a T-rex that was holding a long grabbing thing, and it was saying "I am now unstoppable!" She also put on a pair of Nike sneakers and walked down the stairs and out onto her front porch. Dustin had already made another lap of the neighborhood they lived in and was coming back towards her. She noticed his hair was up in a ponytail, and instead of wearing clothes normal people would wear he was wearing heavy looking digital desert camo pants and heavy looking black boots.
She stepped onto the sidewalk and he began to slow down, halting to a complete stop and keeling over, holding his knees.
"Good morning." Scarlett said with a smile.
"Yeah yeah morning. Something you need?" Dustin asked through heavy breaths. His tone of voice was strained and raspy, but otherwise monotone.
"No not really. Just seeing what your doing. How long have you been running?" Scarlett asked, genuinely curious. He looked like he had been running for quite awhile, so she had no honest clue.
"What time is it?" Dustin responded. Scarlett pulled her phone out and checked the time.
"9:17" She responded.
"Bout 6 hours." Dustin said, still monotone and panting.
"YOUR GONNA KILL YOURSELF" Scarlett yelled. She didn't think running for that long was humanly possible.
"Tsk. Not like that matters to anyone." Dustin mumbled. Scarlett still heard what he said.
"Whats that supposed to mean?" She asked.
"None of your business. If your done annoying me can I go back to running? I still have four miles to go." Dustin said calmly, straightening up and leaning on each of his legs to stretch them.
"Wait I wasn-" She didn't have time to finish her sentence because he was already off and running down the sidewalk.
He finished about a half an hour later. Scarlett watches him out the window while she ate her breakfast, eventually her mother came down to inspect what she was looking at.
Her mother was a kind woman, caring and considerate. Scarlett got her looks from her mothers side of the family. She had the same hair and eye color as her mother, but her mom was shorter than her by maybe two to three inches. She looked out the window at Dustin, a look of pity plastered across her face.
"You know him?" She asked as Scarlett followed Dustin with her eyes.
"Yeah. Kid from school." Scarlett said, she was worried for Dustin. How many miles had he run already? He's crazy.
"Troubled kid he is. I know his mother. Kind woman, his mother. Can't say he got his attitude from her however." Her mother said calmly. "Went through a lot. He's not the biggest fan of his step dad, and he's glad his real fathers dead."
"Yeah. I know." Scarlett said flatly. Finally Dustin slowed to a jog, and stopped in front of his house.
His eyes flickered, and he stumbled, then crashed to the ground. Scarlett was alarmed, and jumped from her seat, then saw him rise, then lower. He was doing pushups. After awhile he walked inside. So Scarlett assumed he was ok.
Dustin went inside and took a shower, a nice long shower. Then put on a pair of ripped jeans and a flannel shirt. Then went downstairs and made breakfast for him and his sister. They ate quietly together.
Then a car door shut outside.
Scarlett saw the old, broken Ford truck pull into Dustins driveway, and watched a tall man with black hair get out. This guy was tall, like five foot eleven, with jet black hair and muscular arms. He was wearing a normal gray T shirt and rough looking jeans, with strange looking brown leather boots on. She watched Dustins face change from curiosity to cold blooded hatred when he stepped outside.
"What the hell are you doing here." Dustin growled. His red eye was gleaming in between strands of still wet hair.
"What do you mean? Am I not allowed to visit my own children?" The man asked.
"Get out of here old man." Dustin said angrily. Then quickly little voice chimed in behind him.
"Dad?" Elisabeth asked. Scarlett couldn't see her face, but she sounded scared.
"Lizzi, stay inside." Dustin said coldly.
"No Elizabeth, come here and give daddy a hug." The man, who Scarlett assumed was their dad, said calmly and took a step forward.
"Dont move another step you bastard. You aren't out real father." Dustin said furiously. "Lizzi stay inside. Go to you room and play video games." Dustin said while looking at her sideways.
"That is not the way you speak to an adult Dustin Stone." Dustin father said, a twang on anger in his voice.
"Why should I care what you think? You don't control me you old bastard." Dustin said. His tone was filled with pure hatred and anger.
"You will not speak to me like that you little shit. I made you." His father said, now very angry.
"I will say whatever I Damn well feel like. You don't control me. Anne you didn't make me. I'm not you're blood." Dustin said, raising his voice. Then Scarlett watched as Dustins father walked right up to him, and back handed him across the face, sending him to the ground.
Dustin wiped blood from his nose and stood up. He was staring at the ground at first and then fixed his eyes in his father. His hair and been thrown behind his ears when his father had hit him, and his eyes were clearly visible. Scarlett stared at him. His eyes were slits, like cats eyes. And the blood lust that resonated from them was so intense that Scarlett could swear he was about to kill the man that stood in front of him.
