Dustin carried Lizzi all the way to Dee's burger joint, a good ten minute walk, and dropped her into a booth as soon as they arrived. He sat down across from her, slumping down in the seat, utterly tired. Lizzi however, looked to be at full energy, swinging her legs happily under the table and clutching her new stuffed Pokemon plushies.
The diner was classic design, the type of place you rarely ever find anymore. It had black and white tile flooring and walls up until half way, which split off into red dyed leather. The booths were the same read leather, and weathered from years of use. There were stools around the front counter where you could order for one, and service was also brought to you if you were in a group.
"I literally spent $50 on those stupid plushies. If I find them ruined in a week I'm shipping you off to China to become a factory worker." Dustin said with a joking smile. Lizzi smacked him lightly on the cheek.
"That's a terrible joke. You shouldn't say those kinds of things in public Dustin." She wiggled her finger in his face left to right and made tsk noises for a moment, and then after receiving his black look she chuckled. "You're hopeless."
"Have been for awhile half pint." Dustin chuckled.
The waiter came up to there booth and handed them their menus, and asked for drink orders. She was young, maybe sixteen, with blond pigtails and freckles.
"What can I get you guys for drinks today? Oh hey don't I know you?" She looked at Dustin incredulously, a little fearful as well. "I'm Lucille. We go to the same school."
"Quiet extra." Dustin growled. The girl made a sort of "Meep!" and hid behind a menu. She was fairly short, and seemed to be quite shy.
"Please ignore him, he's not good with people. Are you having a nice day Lucille?" Lizzi asked with a smile. The girl stopped cowering behind the menu and smiled at Lizzi.
"Yes I am. Anyway back to the task at hand. What can I get you guys for drinks?" Lucille asked happily.
"I'll get a strawberry milkshake." Said Lizzi.
"I'll get a Monster Code Blue." Dustin said flatly. Lucille nodded with a smile and walked away.
Dustin slumped back into the booth, closed his eyes, and tried thinking about being in his room playing video games. His phone buzzed in his pocket, and he pulled it out and checked it.

You at Dee's? It was from Jasper. I'm down the street, mind if I join?

I don't care. I'm here with Elizabeth. Dustin replied.

I'm on my way! Dustin read the text and put his phone away.

"Jasper is gonna be joining us in a few. Says he's down the street." Dustin said flatly. He grabbed at the ends of his hair, twirled it around his finger.
"Great! I like Jasper." Lizzi said happily with a clap of her hands.
"I know. You cling to him like glue whenever he comes over." Dustin exclaimed, annoyed.
"I do not!" Lizzi shouted. " besides he's been to the house like seven times. "
A moment passed, and Dustin played with his hair with hung loosely over his shoulder. He twirled a few strands through his fingers until Jasper shoved the diner door open. Scarlett and the girl from the hospital, Alice, walked through behind him. Dustin reached over his shoulder to the band in his hair and pulled it down an inch, and pulled forward his bangs so they covered his face again. Lizzi looked at him, disappointed, and moved over in the booth for the two ladies. Jasper shouldered into the booth next to Dustin.
"How's it goin ol buddy ol pal?" Jasper asked happily.
"Ever say that again and I'll sock you in the teeth."
"Someone is not in a good mood today." Alice said from the other side of the booth.
"Quiet Extra." Dustin growled. Lizzi kicked him under the table. Alice scolded at him disapprovingly, and Scarlett looked across the diner, avoiding facial contact with Dustin. The waitress came back with the two drinks, and was shocked by the new arrivals. She set the drinks in front of Dustin and Lizzi, then asked the other occupants for their orders.
Dustin spinned his straw around in his drink, the deep blue fizzing liquid in a glass cup. The stuff was extremely bad for you, this much he knew, but he didn't exactly care. It tasted good, one of his favorite drinks. He took a sip and smiled to himself at the blue raspberry taste.
"What kind of drink is that?" Scarlett asked from across the table.
"Monster Code Blue. Best Energy drink in existence." Dustin replied calmly, and took another sip. Scarlett seemed to choke on air and looked at him wide eyed.
"Do you have any idea how bad that stuff is for you? There's like 200mg of caffeine in one of those!" She shouted.
"A quantum super computer calculating for a million years could not even approach the amount of fucks I do not give." Dustin said flatly, and took a long sip through the straw. The blue liquid fizzed in his mouth, filling it with pressure. He swallowed the liquid down and smiled internally again.
"Dustin Spade Stone!" Lizzi kicked him again. "Watch you're language."
"You sound like mom." Dustin rolled his eyes under his hair, which covered his entire face after the two and a half weeks of growth in the hospital.
"Good thing too. I won't always be around to save your ass you know." Jasper laughed next to him.
"Who do you think your talking to?" Dustin turned his head to Jasper. "I'm the one always saving your sorry ass from you're constant fights." Alice choked on the tea she'd be brought during the conversation and laughed.
"You saving someone? Impossible." Alice looked Dustin down.
"He's not lying. Dude remember the fight after school two months ago?" Jasper laughed to Dustin. Dustin thought to himself a moment, then smiled very, very slightly.
"I do remember that one. You got your ass handed to you up until I showed up."
"This sounds like quite the story. I think I'd like to hear it." Alice mused. And so Jasper broke into the story.
