When I walked into the lunch room, I looked around for Kami. A daily ritual. Anyway. When I didn't see her, I headed over to the lunch line. As the line got shorter, I kept looking back to see if she would walk through those doors. I got up to the food station so I grabbed a tray and filled it up with a salad, frozen yogurt and iced tea. I walked out of line and over to the table i usually sit. Over by the window.
I sat down and pulled a fork out of stupid plastic thingy. Those things are hard to break for some reason. Did the makers not want anyone to open them? Yeah. I was half-way done with the salad when she finally ran through the cafeteria doors. I smiled and stood to wave her over to my table. Some of her other friends saw her and called over to her to come to their table. My smiled dropped some as i watched her walk over to them. I sat. "Well it's not like she's abandoning me" I tried to tell me slightly disappointed half. I just ate more of my salad, that had turned a little icy as I chewed it.
I ate the last of my salad and started on my yogurt. Now thats one thing that can make me smile. Strawberry banana yogurt. I finished that up fast and grabbed my tray and headed over to the trash can. I grabbed the iced tea dumped the tray and left the cafeteria. I walked down the hall and stopped at the last class I had today. English. I peeped in and saw that Mr. Jones. was there. I walked in and sat in the middle seat in the back row. Mr. Jones looked up at me.
"Ms. Anderson, is there any particular reason why you are in my class when you have (checks clock) 15 minutes of lunch left?" he asked.
"No reason other than just wanting to be ready for class when it starts" I said
He just looked at me and grunted, "Fine" and got back to writing stuff. I pulled off my jacket and bundled it up into a pillow. Nothing wrong with catching some zzz's while I wait. After my head touched the jacket, I was out like a light.
I woke up to lots of noisy sounds and laughing. Chairs scraping backwards. Moving feet. Tapping pencils. And all other annoying sounds of things. I kept my eyes closed and imagined myself somewhere else. That place? My bed. Not this hard ass chair that has made school even more unbearable. I sighed. Then opened my eyes. A powerful current of awareness shot through me in that same moment.
Right there in my face, were the same eyes i see almost every night in my dream. One green. One blue.
