The Nerd with the Dangerous Secret

Fear bubbled deep with in me as I walked home that night, he was starting to connect the dots that other people for a long time had been too oblivious to connect and thats why my plan did work so well because people were to oblivious to connect the dots but him Fray was starting to connect the dots as if my life was just a simple game of dots-to-dots and that's what made me fear him

My fear only got worse and once I got home and pushed open the door, I couldn't even pick up my daughter because of how much my hands were trembling because of my fear Mason walked up to me and saw this raising his eyebrows in question and I just shook my head telling him I didnt want to talk about it as I put Gracelyn onto the sofa

I tried to push past him to go to the kitchen to get a drink hoping that will help me with my nerves but he only blocked the way out of the living room and took my hands rubbing slow gentle circles on them knowing that this was a sure way of getting me to calm down -- even after not being friends for a year we still know everything about each other and it can sometimes be really annoying for the other person like me for instance

"What happened in detetion Connors?" He whispers lowly rubbing soothing circles into my skin trying to get me to calm down enough in order for me to tell him what happened with Fray i detention

"Someone, a new kid called Fray, thinks I'm hiding something -- a secret or whatever he managing to connnect the dots and I dont know what to do" I am almost crying on Mason's shoulders as I tell him the situation

"Bloody hell the one detention that you get and you already finding yourself in trouble" He says to me and his words cut through me like a knife and I think although i tried to mask it I showed my horror and upset because he quickly changes his words "We will sort it out, together I promise"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah" I say in a montontone voice "Well I have a fight at six but thats like an hour away so what do you say we go grab icecream" I say which makes Gracelyn jump up and down in excitement

....

"GRACELYN LOUISE WATCH OUT FOR THAT PRAM" I yell hoping the overly enegentic girl can hear me after three cups of icecream, wait why did I ever think that giving her three cups of ice cream was a good idea?

She stops and looks at me her bright green eyes sparkling with michief and pouts a bit making both me and Mason laugh before Mason tells her to go on so she runs on and nearly bumps into the pram that I told her to watch out for

I sigh and give Mason a look to which  he returns as he shrugs his toned shoulders, I run over to Grace who is now flat on her back screaming and creating a scene I'm about to apologize to the person pushing the pram when I freeze

"Well. . .Well. . .Connors what do we have here? Or should I say who?" Fray asks cracking a sort of half cruel smile as he gestures to the small girl still sobbing as she cried on Mason's lap who was trying so hard to get her calm again

"Uh. . .She's my little sister. . .I volunteered to take her to the park since my mom was swamped to the neck with work" I lie thinking of it as I went along hoping my pauses in the lie didn't raise too much suspicion

He gave me a look that said he didn't quite believe me but he let it slide at least for now "Well, I hope she's alright but I must get back my baby brothers naptime is soon and I don't want to keep my mum waiting bye Connors see you tomorrow" He turns to Gracelyn who is now a little bit calmer "Bye little one sorry about that" and then he turned and walked away not even acknowledging Mason, he looked angry and was trying to get his erratic breathing under control

 When Fray was out of earshot Mason turned towards me hi fists shaking at his sides "Is that the douchebag with the suspicions" 

I nod, fearing that if I sugar coat this, it just wont end well, for anybody

"We may have a problem then that was Jordan Fray recently got excluded from the Silver Academy for what police said was drug related activities and because his dads high and mighty on the school board he was able to come to Keaton with a warning and if he finds out the truth there is no telling what he can or would  do" Mason explains and my mouths hangs open in shock -- so I was right he is a bad boy.

"How do you know all of this?" I ask him my mouth still hanging slightly open with the news that I just found out

"When I was captain of the Bears we played against The Sharks and Jordon was the captain plus you could say that we have mutual friends that hang out together in the same circle" He explains in reply to my question shrugging as if it was not a big deal.

"So. . .What do we do? Just lay low?" I ask him not fully understanding how we get past this obstacle

"Yes that would be a start and I guess we'll have to either cover her up as our cousin or something or not take her out publicly and most importantly avoid Fray at all times" He commented making me nod my head in approval but then I remembered something

"I have three classes with him including some AP classes" I pointed out to Mason

"Just show up late to class and leave before the bell rings so he doesn't have time to talk to you" Mason suggested making me nod my head and shortly after we all left the park and headed home because I needed to get ready for my fight
