December 24, 10 years old
Aspen had learned to eagerly wait for the boy she only knew as "J.F." every night on Christmas Eve because he'd always appear and make snow. She didn't know how it worked, but she still believed. She awaited his return, and right on time, at 11:55pm as per usual, he appeared in a blur of blue and white, searing through the sky to her front yard. She had began to cherish these annual visits, knowing she'd only get to see him once a year. He nodded and the show began.
The various different snowflakes began to dance around him, as he created more and more, making different shapes and pictures with them. She laughed, enjoying the show, wishing it would never end. Every year her wish was snow. She knew he'd come back and she'd be able to see him again. She believed in him even though all the kids at school would tell her she was dreaming. She had tried to convince them multiple times, but everyone thought she was weird.
She remembered she didn't know his name and that this was her chance. The show finished and as he bowed, she said, "Wait, don't leave yet."
He looked at her confused, but obliged. "You've come here for five years, but I don't know your name. All I know is your initials: J.F."
He smiled and said, "Jake Frost, that's my name."
"That's quite an odd name don't you think?" She questioned, tilting her head.
"It's a magical name given to me by my father," He laughed.
"I've tried telling the kids at school about you but the won't listen," She pouted, crossing her arms.
"It's important that you still believe in me or else I won't be able to see you next year," he replied, smiling reassuringly. Aspen nodded understandingly and he waved, "I've got to go now, Aspen. See you next year!" and with that, he was gone. Only the initials on her window to prove that it wasn't a dream.
