he noticed her. he knew she was one of the baristas at the cafe.
the day he and yeoreum broke up, she was the one serving his table. that was how he noticed her.
[flashback]
"sir, our cafe will be closing soon. please kindly take your beverage with you when you leave, thank-," yeri was cut off.
"i don't want the unfinished drinks," jungkook said with his head down and buried into his palms.
"pardon?"
he put one of his fingers down on the table, pointing to the ordered beverages and he shook his hand slightly, signalling a 'no, i don't want it'.
yeri observed him closer, before speaking up. "yes, it's alright, sir. i'll clean it up for you."
she grabbed the two glasses of unfinished hot americano, brought them back to the small kitchen just some steps behind the counter.
she came back with a pack of tissues, and handed it to him, reaching her arm out. "hey."
jungkook looked up from his palms and his eyes landed on that small pack of tissues, which seemed like a pack of life-savers instead for jungkook. he took it politely, knowing that that barista had realised he was silently crying.
"thanks."
yeri smiled at him.
"welcome."
[reality]
it was a breezy monday, there were no classes in the morning and there was practice later on in the evening. so he walked to that bookshop cafe and settled down at his regular place after placing his regular order.
then he suddenly remembered, that day was a year later from the pathetic day his first love dumped him. so somehow his head steered him to the deep thoughts where he reminisced in the past memories, and he tried to not walk into the bad ones.
jungkook was pulled back into reality, by the voice of a young lady next to him. he turned his head to his left, and right in front of his eyes was one of the cafe's baristas whom he recognised, it was yeri. the girl who lowkey saved his life the day a year ago.
"mister, here is your hot americano. i called your name a few times, but you didn't answer," she said in a slight annoyed tone, and placed the cup on his table, producing a loud sound. then she walked away, back to behind the counter, before he could even say a word.
jungkook raised his eyebrows, surprised but he was amused for some reason, which he couldn't really touch. he smiled at her back.
he turned to his coat pocket and stuck a hand into it, and fumbled around for a small piece of paper which he remembered he threw inside. and there it was. he grabbed the pen the cafe provides at every table and scribbled some words.
sorry for the inconvenience caused, call me jungkook.
he took his cup of hot americano and phone, standing up and walking to the cafe counter where yeri was, the small note clutched in his hand. he put it down onto the counter and pushed it towards her.
then he walked away and out into the cold weather, where the winds slapped his face like a million needles. and that was the first time he felt it.
he finally felt that he was over yeoreum for real.
