Hiking in the woods was a way for both of the brothers to get past their arguments. Weird as it sounds, it worked most of the time, so none complained.

[[[[[[[[[[

Prussia tripped on a rogue branch, and hissed in surprise. "Ow!!!"

Germany chose to smile slightly and help him up, which was the equivalent of rolling on the floor laughing in mirth. "Get up, brother. We still have lots of miles to go until we reach our cabin."

"I know that, you twat!" Prussia yelled, limping slightly." To be precise, 5 more frickin miles!!"

"It's not that much, bruder." Germany said, using the Germanic term for brother.

They walked on until sunset.

[[[[[[[[[[[

The sunset cast a rosy fog over the landscape, making everything seem warm. The trees stood, tall and proud, their shadows silhouetted over the trail. The air smelled faintly of pine trees and fresh mountain air. Both of the brothers were entranced by the sights, momentarily forgetting how to breathe.

Of course, they were cautious. One false step could send them tumbling into the canyon below.

[[[[[[[[[[[

By the time the sun was well under the darkening horizon, they reached the log cabin, Germany taking the key out of his pockets.

The door creaked invitingly, and they stepped inside.

[[[[[[[[[

Everything was in its place.

The blue curtains, the lamp on its pole.

The lamp had a special story.

One day, when the wind was howling, a spirit came to Germany and Prussia while they were arguing, and blew light out of its mouth. Literally light.

Pale, and glowing with warmth, the light floated to a very surprised Prussia's hand.

"Take it to your log cabin. It will keep your friendship warm and living forever."

"The next day, they journeyed up there together and placed it right next to the door on a lamp hanger and returned home, contented.

The fire burned without falter, sustaining their friendship.

[[[[[[[[[

An argument was going on.

Not sure how it happened, the two brothers kept on with it.

Not seeing the spirit slowly

Flicker.

Out.

Until it died down completely.

[[[[[[[

"Look-"

Germany interrupted him curtly." I don't have time for your nonsense."

"Will you just look!?!?!?!" Prussia screamed, and continued in a quieter voice." Oh no..."

Germany reluctantly regarded the direction Prussia was pointing in and his heart stopped.

The flames had died out. The spirit of friendship was dead.

[[[[[[[[[ timeskip brought to you by China's panda.

Prussia slumped to the ground, bursting into silent tears.

Germany's stood there, unsure what to do. Then came to a decision.

He walked briskly over to where Prussia was hunched miserably, and sat down along with him, patting his back.

"Look, I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I shouldn't have yelled at you. And the light dying out..."

Prussia smiled waterily, and hugged him back tightly. "I never wanted that flame to die out. I'm sorry."

"Let's go to bed. Today was tiring."

[[[[[[[[

At just before midnight, Prussia walked into Germany's bedroom, hugging his pillow.

Germany groaned,"Yes, brother?"

"Can I sleep with you? It's too cold in my bedroom."

Germany nodded sympathetically. Prussia's bedroom was right next to the air conditioning, and most of the time, they didn't bother to turn it off.

"Sure."

That night, both slept fitfully well.

[[[[[[[[

The flame started to light back up slowly.
