In my society, there are 4 types of people. Royalty, Royal servants, Commonors, and Warriors. I am the latter. We never get to choose which one we are. You are royalty by birth, a royal sevant if chosen by royalty, a commonor if not chosen as a royal servant, and lastly you are a warrior if you are bred to be one.
