As the King silently walked away, I stood outside the door wondering what he meant by that. “Adeline! Get a grip on yourself. Just go in and figure out what happened!” I yelled at myself. I sighed and opened the door.
“Adeline!” my mom called softly.
“Mom! I thought you were dead.”
“I am not far from it.”
“What do you mean?”
“An assassin poisoned me last night.”
“Why did nobody say anything to me?”
“The affects of the poison didn’t show up until an hour ago.”
“Do you know who did it?”
“No, that is your assignment. Someone set that trap for your father and someone poisoned me. Your job is to find out who did it. In addition to that, you must assume regular warrior duties.”
“Why?”
“Because I am unable to do them.”
“But I haven’t had all the training I need.”
“I have faith in you. The King will instruct you on what to do! Keep in mind that the hunters will not like a girl protecting them.”
“I will do my best, I promise.”
