Kiera walked out the school today with relief. One exam down, two to go. She thought to herself.

“Kiera, wait up!” Someone shouted from behind.

“Hey Liz.” Kiera waved. “How was that?”

“What? Oh the exam? Psh easy.”

Liz was a nerd, but not your typical nerd, she partied more than anyone Kiera knew with a 4.0 GPA. Natural talent.

“Listen, this Friday.” She continued. “Meg is having a party, on campus. You know how wild those parties are.”

“I am guessing pretty wild.” Kiera laughed. “I still have exams Liz, and so do you.”

“That’s what the weekend is for.” She threw her arm over Kiera’s shoulders. Liz towered over Kiera easily.

Kiera sighed.

“So it’s a yes.” Liz nudged. “Oh, you’re staying at the Cherrytree Building right?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Apparently there’s a celebrity staying there, I don’t know who though.”

“Oh, that’s cool.” They both shrugged and continued walking to their favourite coffee shop.

After socializing at the coffee shop for about two hours, Kiera finally arrived back to her apartment. Liz always has the newest scoops on…everyone. Kiera and Liz just met this year and they’ve become really close. Liz lives with her father nearby, her parents had divorced and she felt obligated to stay with her father and doesn’t have the audacity to leave him alone.

Kiera opened the doors to the building, it was quite a clean building considering it is one of the newest buildings in town.

She was approaching the elevators and noticed James, tapping on his phone, waiting for the elevator.

She awkwardly stood next to him. Maybe he won’t notice her, she thought.

But he had already looked up. “Hi Kiera.”

“Hey.” Were the only words she can manage to get out.

The doors finally opened, breaking the silence. As they both stepped inside, their fingers collided trying to press the same button.

“Sorry.” Kiera muttered and stepped back, feeling the blood rushing to her face. They were on the 24th out of 26th floor. Which meant a long ride.

“So the balcony door.” He interrupted her thoughts. “Doesn’t want to open, the receptionist is on break or something. Do you know the trick?”

She instantly thought about her door and remembered how she struggled.

“What’s so funny?” He laughed back. “Let me guess, you know what I’m talking about?”

Kiera nodded. “I can show you.”

He unlocked the door allowing them both to enter. She first noticed the tidiness, and then the numerous guitars lying around, as well as music sheets. Other than that everything was in place, not a piece of clothing in sight.

“You play?” She asked him motioning towards the guitars.

“Yeah, do you play anything?”

“No, I’m not really good with instruments.” She replied.  “So the trick is,” she continued walking towards the balcony door, “you have to lift this stick and” She removed the stick hidden behind the curtain stopping the door from sliding open. She slid the door open with ease.

James was laughing hysterically. “You enjoyed that, didn’t you?”

“Just a little.” She laughed back.

They shared a moment just then, but didn’t last long.

“I should go.” Kiera broke their stare.

“Right, okay. Thanks.” James reached for the back of his neck while looking down.

Before she grasped the door handle James called. “Hey, I noticed you were in University.”

“Yeah I am, do you also go to Western?”

“Oh, no. I don’t go to school. I mean I’m not old I’m only 19. What I’m getting at is that when you’re done with exams, don’t hesitate to knock on my door or anything.” He stuttered through his words.

“Oh, like hang out?” She asked in surprise. She’s never had a guy be this forward, yet he wasn’t forward at all.

“Exactly.” He smiled. She loved that smile.

“Sure, I’d like that.”

She walked back to her own room with a massive smile on her face that she couldn’t hide.
