Valerie's POV:

I was anxiously pacing back and forth in front of the main door of my house because Nathan was about to visit.
Mainly, because I told him to come and assure my parents that I'd be safe with him.
My parents would NEVER let me go if they knew the real reason. So, I told them that my boss has booked a resort in the nearby town for us all to bond. Nathan just had to come and assure them. I honestly dont know how my parents are gonna react when they get to know the truth. Maybe they'd feel betrayed or hurt? Or maybe they'd feel proud and honored? Honestly, I dont know.

The doorbell rang and I came out of my thoughts. I quickly straightened my dress and opened the door.
"Hey! Come in!" I smiled.
Nathan was dressed up pretty decent. My parents are surely gonna like him. Wait. No. I meant like as in just like him as my friend.
He walked in and followed me to the living room.
"Make yourself at home!" I said and flopped on the sofa.
"Val, dear!" Mom yelled from somewhere.
"Mom! In the living room! Nathan is here!" I yelled back.
I heard footsteps behind me and thought it was Mom but unfortunately it was Seb.
Great! Now he's gonna embarrass me in front of a guy with whom I might stay a week or maybe months.
"Hey sister!" Seb said with a creepy smile.
"Hi" I glared at him.
"Whoa! Who's that?!" He asked pointing at Nathan.
Seb went to Nathan and they did a bro hug kinda thing and introduced themselves to eachother.
"Valerie! How come you never told us you have a boyfriend!" Seb yelled.
And that, my friends, was when my dad came in with a shotgun.
Great.
"Thank you Seb!" I bitterly said as he smirked and ran away.
"So, you are my daughters boyfriend?" Dad said eyeing Nathan from head to toe.
"Easy there Dad!" I said as I took the darn gun from him and kept it aside.
I literally have no idea how Nathan is still here. At this point, any guy would have screamed and ran away.
I gave Nathan an apologetic look.
"Dad, please sit!" I said.
I gestured Natty to take a seat as well. I sat beside dad.

"So, what do you do?" My dad asks.
"I'm currently doing a part time job as a detective. Its just for the summers. Then I'll look for a proper job." Nathan answers.
"And how do expect to marry my daughter so soon when you dont even have a proper job" Dad says.
"DAD!" I yell.
"I am sooo sorry Nathan! Dad, he's not here to seek permission for marriage!" I quickly say.
Mom then enters the room. Its about time she came.
"Mom! Did you not tell dad?" I asked.
"What? Are you pregnant now?" Dad shouts.
"Oh God! NO! Dad, my boss has booked a resort for us for like a week maybe it can be extended to two weeks so I wanna go! And Nathan is here to assure you that I'd be safe with them!" I explain.
First Seb. Now Dad was embarrassing me.

"Ahan.. Okay. Why are you asking for my permission? You are big enough to decide it on your own." Dad says calmly.

"Yeah, I know but I just..." I speak looking down.

"Honey, its okay! You can go, but just be safe" Mom says.

"Nathan, I am trusting you with my daughter. Please keep her safe," Dad speaks.

"Sir, please don't worry about her. I will make sure to stay with her at all times and protect her." Nathan assures dad.

Dad smiles in return.

"Nathan, please leave after dinner." Mom insists.

"Thank you maam" Nathan says.

**

"Hope you liked the dinner!" Mom said to Nathan, to which he happily replied, " I loved it, I could eat this all day!".

Dad surprisingly chuckled at Nathan comment. Considering how he was treating him just a few hours ago.

"I'll take your leave now" Nathan said standing up.

"I'll escort him to the car" I said standing up and wiping my hands.

Nathan said the goodbye's and we started walking towards his car in silence.

"Umm.. I'm sorry about my dad. He's a little too overprotective." I spoke breaking the silence.

"Hey! Its okay. I din't mind at all" He said chuckling.

"I honestly don't know why you din't run away when he got the shotgun. Any guy would've" I say.

"That indeed was terrifying but I'm a strong guy." Nathan chuckles.

"So you ready for the mission?" I ask.

"Yup. I'm having a strong feeling we're going to find that locket in no time. What about you?" He replies.

"Honestly, I don't know. I'm a bit terrified, but at the same time I'm excited." I answer.

"Its going to be tough but don't worry, you'll do it. We'll do it. Together. As a team." Nathan says smiling.

"As a team!" I repeat and smile.

"So, see you tomorrow." Nathan says while opening the car door.

"Tomorrow? I thought we're relaxing tomorrow?" I ask confused.

"Yeah, that's why Adam, Jeffery and I planned on going for lunch and I'm inviting you." He explains.

"Oh.. I think its better I don't tag along. I don't want them to think I'm well.." I try to make an excuse.

"They wont think anything! Just be ready I'll come and pick you up." He says.

"Okay fine." I sigh.

"Bye Vals." Nathan gives me a side hug and sits inside the car.

"Bye" I reply weakly and wave as he starts the car and goes off.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day and I already feel tired by just thinking about it.

I head back inside and directly go to my bedroom and fall on my bed.

I did not even feel like changing so I just laid on my bed, thinking.

About stuff.

Stuff that could happen tomorrow.

Stuff that could happen during the mission.

Stuff that could change my life forever.

In a good way?

or In a bad way?

I don't know.

I don't think by this point, I even want to know or not.
