Chapter 13

Foxtail stood over his lifeless Clan leader. Whom had been there ever since he was a little kit. He flicked his tail towards Shadowfeather and purred with regret. "Please go get Fernpelt. We need to bury her body." Shadowfeather nodded. Foxtail's eyes were clouded with pain and Shadowfeather didn't argue with his orders.

"Why has StarClan done this?" Foxtail pleaded in fury.  Fernpelt and Shadowfeather trotted into the den. Fernpelt's eyes went wide as if she didn't believe it the first time she'd heard it.  She leaned down in pain. Muttering words to calm herself.

Petalpaw walked in and pressed her flank against Foxtail's. "I'll have to adress this to the clan." He huffed and flicked his tail at Petalpaw.

"I brought you some poppy seeds." She purred.

"How did you find out so soon?" He hissed.

"I saw Shadowfeather. And I'm so sorry. But I knew this would happen." Petalpaw went on.

"You did?" Foxtail's eyes hardened and he took a step foward towards her and hissed coldly.

"I'm sorry. StarClan sent me a message." She bowed her head and felt a tear trickle down her face. She placed the poppy seeds on the den floor and slinked out. A weight of regret was building on her shoulders, pulling her down.

Shadowfeather gave Foxtail an icy glare. "She is only an apprentice. She was trying to help! And if the message came from StarClan it was possibly meant to be! She has had her nine lives." Fernpelt flicked her tail against Foxtail's flank and she muttered,

"It's alright. Everyone has faith in you. You'll be an amazing leader." She purred, giving him a quick lick of the head.

Foxtail bowed his head. He would accept the challenge of being the Clan's leader. He wouldn't back down. It would all be alright. Shadowfeather met his side and listened to his heart beat. It quickened the pace and Shadowfeather muttered something. Something that would be forever lost.
