Just so you now, the whole bonus chapter thing is like side events to the story and are to be posted along with regular updates...if I ever get savvy enough for that...and aren't part of the main story flow.

Rap line focus

"It's simple Key, you just need to make sure you watch your inequalities and keep your exponential processes in order."

I almost break the pencil in my hand, Namjoon going off on another tangent about how to solve higher math problems in your mind. He's so lost in his explanation he doesn't notice me staring at him, dumbfounded.

"It's actually got a relationship to music when you look at it, the timing of a metronome can be used to symbolize the ideal of how the process needs to be followed in this exact system or you won't get the right answer. A metronome is back and forth, each beat equal to the last one unless you speed up or slow down the timing, same with an equation, it's always equal on both sides, that is if you even have an equals sign to work with you might be dealing with something completely different like-"

I've made a spit wad and shot it at Jimin, my aim deadly true as he freaks out and runs to the bathroom to wash his face.

"Key that's gross!"

He shouts at me as I laugh, falling over sideways. Once I sober up I lock eyes with Namjoon, finally getting an idea.

"We started this trying to make a rap song right? And you wanted to do something with math in it? So why don't you have your intro for the song like, like a row of metronomes! And that'll be your base line beat for the entire song and we'll overlay a bunch of other rhythms on top of the first."

I start a beat on the table, wondering what other aesthetics would work and if we should shoot it in black and white. I went to film school for a year and think I might be able to make this work.

"I don't know what to rap about."

He groans, flopping forwards onto the table.

"You were telling me how stupid it is that your sister got plastic surgery, and then your girlfriend broke up with you, rap about that. And if you can't think of lyrics, I always can."

I start with a short phrase and let's the words multiply, spitting out the lyrics as I pound a beat on the table. Tae has come to watch and Yoongi has even woken up from his nap, a viral interest in his eyes that I've never seen before.

"Haters gonna hate and players gonna play, motherfuckas keep on fuckin all day, follow my shit my friend and I'll pay, think this is the last time?
just wait
it's my day
it's my time
and you can't even see how high I've risen I'm too expensive for you to even view stop trying my friend my rap's too fast for you stop making up a flow you can't even start I've already finished I'm done with your shitty producers and your stupid contracts I'll make it on my own and I'll send you to Hong Kong girl or guy you've fallen under my spell remember all my bapsaes we're about to tour worldwide so keep watching us we're climbing the charts so fast you can't even breathe!"

I finish, the words still going in my head a thousand a minute. I see Hoseok has recorded my brief rap, and Yoongi is actually applauding me.

"Key I will bow down at your feet if I can use that lyric about Hong Kong."

"I want the first part!"

Namjoon shouts, furiously scribbling down his own set of lyrics on the dreaded math book. I try to get the rest of my lyrics scribbled down in the notebook I find on the sofa, breaking the pencil lead in my hurry. Our creative break has obviously come, and by the end of the night Hoseok, Yoongi, Namjoon and I are all crammed in the studio rapping as fast as we can with the sound recorder on.

"What should we call it?"

Hoseok says as we take a water break, the adrenaline rush charging the whole room as we scrawl down lyrics and play with sounds. Our disagreements over what lyrics are gold and what are trash make it even more electric, a friendly fight to be the best keeping us awake.

"Why not call it Cypher?"

I say, ignoring their eye rolls and grabbing the mic, running through another onslaught of lyrics stemming from being a screwed up misunderstood angry rapper from the underground.

And that's how it happened. Longer chapters to ensue, and hopefully this book will be updated more frequently in the future pfft.
