Gomez couldn’t believe himself. Mind you, he couldn’t believe his wife either. She did belong to him. And he did belong to her. Did she not see that he was an object when it came to the sort of power she had over him? He only hoped that she felt the same each time he touched or spoke to her. Well, she had never told him otherwise and yet all he could imagine now was that she had lied.
He still could not believe himself for being so… so violent. He was never violent with his wife and rarely with anyone else unless they threatened the safety of his wife and children. And he does remember vividly the time when he vowed that he would always ask her to dance. How could he have broken a promise to his wife? He knew it was no use to convince himself that he had asked her with his eyes.
He has made his way outside and leaning against a magnificent marble pillar, he pulls out his cravat frustrated. He looks out onto the incredible garden lit with the incredible brightness of the moon. And although the moon didn’t light up the darkness well, the orange trees and grape vines in the distance were still all visible. And to imagine all this belonged to a man that called Morticia by her first name and actually made her smile.
Gomez had lost it. How could someone make his wife feel more beautiful than he could make her feel?
“My mother and father are always so in love with each other.” Wednesday watches as she swirls a spoon around in her mushed chocolate mousse. She looks up at Frankie only to feel her heart flutter for the billionth time. How could a French dark-haired boy have such blue eyes? “I just wish that… that I could find something like that. Something that amazing…”
It felt like something inside her was making faces as each word, each thought of hers that either came out of her mouth- or almost did. It was as if it was telling her that she was being disgusting. That she was smiling too much.
“Yeah… well, my father… he’s always very mysterious. I don’t know him very well. I don’t know- I don’t think I’ve ever really known him. But I’ve heard from people that he changed when my mother died. That everything became evolved around what happened to her. They all said that he never really got over it. I think it’s how this organization started. She died of cancer and I think when he was informed of my case he sort of freaked out. I think that he’s gone a little crazy…”
Suddenly he looks up at the clock and drums his fingers impatiently on the table. Wednesday watches his fingers, mesmerised.
“Don’t worry. I think that you two will figure it out. I mean, our family is so dysfunctional but it seems to work for us. You’ll find a way.” She smiles at him and again feels so unlike herself and yet amazing for being something else.
And for one of the first time it wasn’t his smile that made her feel incredible. He saw hers and there was something about the way in which she curled her lips. Maybe it was her unpractised smile that might’ve seemed a little cute to him but he suddenly felt what Wednesday had felt since the first time she had met him. It could’ve have been a moment where he would have shared anything with her.
And suddenly her smile disappears as she notices that he is frowning. He looks into her eyes. “Wednesday?” She nods. “I need to show you something.”
