I realise that would have been an awesome ending if I was a professional writer or something, but no 'rbicer', it's not finished. So sorry it took so long! Two to go:
And nothing. Nothing happened. Everything seemed to stay the same, (the same being after that night’s happenings). No explosion, no nothing.
And Morticia and Gomez both noticed. They couldn’t say they were relieved, but more still anticipating it. It was something that seemed inevitable to them. They couldn’t even imagine not ending their lives at that very moment. And as they waited longer and longer and longer and still longer, still nothing happened. It almost seemed to ruin their last moment.
And suddenly Morticia had a completely irrelevant thought:
“Gomez?” She looks at him a little worried, but it seems for the wrong reason. “When I was seducing that man…”
Gomez splutters. He couldn’t believe after all that his wife was still bringing it up.
“Do you think his son was there?”
It seemed like a terrible thought. That sort of childhood trauma would ruin someone. And suddenly Morticia and Gomez Addams, yes, Morticia and Gomez Addams felt sympathy. No, not only empathybut also sympathy. It was weird this feeling. They were not used to it and out of instinct, Morticia ran off once again in the direction of the cellar with her husband right behind her. But when they arrived…
It was gone.
It had completely disappeared. The trapdoor, the basement… it had been blown up and Morticia and Gomez Addams did not smile. They did not laugh. They did not applaud the person who made this happen for there was a small boy in there. A small boy with not much time to stay alive, but still time live. Still time to see what he could get out of life and not live his life like an Addams. Like the Addams that all Addamses seemed to strive to be. Both kinds; the people who hide it, and the people who just don’t possess any positive qualities.
“That boy…”
They both stood there, silent after that comment. And you may never know who said it. I would dare say that Morticia and Gomez Addams did not even know who actually said it for they were both thinking it.
And the rest after that seemed a blur; their children came at some point, they could see smiles, possibly hear laughter, then they were in a car at some point watching the buildings one by one fly past. Everything was a blur. All except one…
They would look down every once in a while to see their hands in the clasp of another. Not a tight clasp, just a safe one. And that image was all that was clear in the next blur of events. They could just see those hands clearer than anything they had ever understood before and the voices and actions that happened around them, they were oblivious to.
And finally someone decided to wake them up. To tell them that the kid was indeed dead and there was nothing they could do about it. And of course it had to be Wednesday.
“You two need to snap out of whatever this is. An Addams does not grieve like this! Mother, I mean look at you! Your not wear anything underwear down! And father, I mean… nothing’s wrong with the way you’ve dressed… just…” She couldn’t think of anything for her father but intelligently moved on. “That kid…” She sighs remembering his unforgivable eyes and that smile… She coughs. “That kid is dead. And there is nothing you two can do about it! So stop it!”
They didn’t even blink and Wednesday hits her leg in frustration.
“Mother, you look like a slut! And father, you’re a slug! Wake up to yourselves! You’re being those terrible people we see whenever we pass the public cemetery. All sad and stuff… like a funeral is a terribly sad thing.”
And suddenly she stops. Of course. She finally understood why those people looked so sad at a funeral. Her family was so dysfunctional- Frankie had been right. Did they not care if they were never going to see someone ever again? Well, Wednesday almost lost her parents and her little brother… and well, she had lost someone that day. Someone she was never going to see again no matter how much she wished for it. Something inside was telling her that she was being pathetic, but her mind finally took control of her thoughts and that little voice inside was silenced, (for a while at least). Or maybe it wasn’t her mind that took control, but her heart.
