Welcome once again, dear reader. I'm glad you could join me. But, beware, this story is meant as a suspenseful/horror story, so read at your own risk.

Drenched in sweat, my heart racing, I bolted upright, hugging my comforter to my chest. I tried desperately to shake the dread the nightmare had left in its wake. Creak. Attempting to calm myself, I quickly snatched the flashlight off my nightstand and went to investigate. Slowly, I made my way through the minefield of possessions on the bedroom floor. I reached the hallway, and began to go down the stairs, but an odd sight awaited me at the bottom. The living room had baby toys strewn about everywhere. Stuffed animals, balls, rattles, and teething toys that should have been packed away in boxes covered the surfaces of the room.

This was some sort of cruel joke, someone feeding off of someone else's pain. I searched for a culprit, but found none. A small glint of light bouncing off of a picture frame caught my eye. I picked the picture up, nothing unusual about the photo, just me and my husband, who was pretending to kiss my large, pregnant stomach. A single tear escaped my eye.

I turned the picture over and set it back down. I looked in the kitchen to see if there was anyone hiding in there, only to find everything where it should be. But upon the countertop sat a scrap of paper with some writing on it. It read, "It was your fault."

"Liar!" I yelled suddenly, throwing the note on the ground, tears running down my face.

Out of the corner of my eye, something moved in the darkness. I took a small step back hearing what sounded like a child running.

"Why are you here?" I asked, my voice trembling.

A distorted voice slowly replied, "You know what you did… You know it is your fault that I am like this…"

"It wasn't my fault!" I cried, "It wasn't my fault…"

Hearing more running, I tried to leave through the front door, but it was locked, so I ran upstairs to call the police.

"Hello?" I whispered into the phone, on the verge of tears, "There is someone in my house, please send someone, anyone, to come help me."

I locked my bedroom door and heard noises coming from downstairs. As I was waiting for the authorities to arrive, the sounds got closer and closer, until the sounds came from right outside the door. Whatever was on the other side began to slowly drag its fingers or claws along the door, making a sound like nails on a chalkboard. Then it started to pound against the door. Bang, bang, bang. Then, the faint sounds of sirens approached. The pounding stopped.

Footsteps approached, human voices along with them.

Someone tried the doorknob, and when they couldn't get in, a kind voice called out, ¨Is anyone in there?¨

¨Yes!¨ I replied, filled with relief.

¨Can you open the door?¨ Another person asked.

Slowly, I got up and opened the door. Two male police officers were waiting on the other side.

¨So you said someone was in your house?¨ One asked, holding a notebook and a pen.

¨Yes, I woke up and heard some noises downstairs, and went to investigate, and heard something running, and there were toys thrown about my living room, and I found a note in the kitchen." I answered.

¨Well,¨ one of the police officers said, ¨we didn't see anything when we were down there.¨

The other officer nodded his head in agreement.

¨That can't be right, someone was in the house.¨ I said, my voice shaking.

¨Why don't you come outside with us?¨ one said, his words laced with insincerity.

Lowering my head, I went outside with them, but as we walked through the house, there was no sign of what had happened earlier.

Two police officers walked in with a woman who looked to be in her twenties. One stayed with the woman, while the other came to my desk.

He started, ¨That woman has lost it. Called us saying there was someone in her house. Her name is Jade Laurens. We looked at her file, and apparently, her husband died, and recently she was pregnant and got in a car crash and lost her child. Must have sent the poor woman over the edge.¨

¨Well, you brought her to the right place. I´ll go tell the others we have someone else to take care of.¨ I said.

The next day, I went to go check on Jade, but when I got to her room, she was gone. No sign of violence, just a single scrap of paper that said, ¨It was your fault.¨

I hope you guys enjoyed! Have a good day!
