I straightened my dark blue long sleeve shirt and knocked on Mr. Harrison's door. I could hear his groans as he walked to the door.
"Wha- oh hello," his somewhat annoyed expression was switched with a uneasy one. His hair was cute today it was styled back like normal but a small piece fell in front outcasting itself from the group. He noticed I was looking and pulled a hands through his hair letting the piece fall back into place along the others.
I frowned a little,
"What?"
"You've got yourself a new desk,"
"Oh that's awesome," I turned the corner to see all my stuff completely gone from Alex's office.
"Wait what?"
"I gave your old cubicle away so finally rooms been made for your new one. Margret retired!" He gave a grin to me in which I gave a small nod.
"Oh, okay." I mumbled feeling a little hurt by the finally part of his story.
He ushered me towards my new cubicle, it was just down the hall from his office. I could actually see his office from where I was.
"As you already know- don't get too comfortable, this is still an internship. And yes, the ones I feel suit this business best stay." He didn't really look at me as he spoke, maybe he was uncomfortable talking to me outside of his office.
I nodded, not really needing him to remind me.
"I'll email you a list of things I'll need you to get done."
He sighed and leaned towards me.
"There's been a complaint." He mumbled his cheeks heating up the slightest.
his eyes meeting mine just once before turning and walking past me and down the stairs.
I blinked, confused at what he was getting at.
I was still a bit worried as the clock struck 7 pm. It was well over time for me to go home. Most of the lights were off in the building though the monitors on the computers where bright.
I got up from my desk, powered off my computer, and grabbed my coat to leave.
As I walked down the hallway Alex rounded the corner with two men that were older and looked of higher reign than him. His green eyes met mine only a minute as he quickly looked away.
I smiled at him, feeling very awkward.
"See you tomorrow Mr. Harrison."
The men stopped and turned towards Alex when they caught my smile. His cheeks heated up and he cleared his voice.
"Have a good night Mrs. Grant." He said his voice filled with authority and professionalism.
I nodded and passed them feeling awkward. I sped up a little bit nearing the corner where Alex once was just minutes ago.
"That's her isn't it." The one man said in a hushed voice.
"It is." Alex spoke.
My body froze. I hid behind the corner as the men hadn't moved from when I passed them.
"She's pretty isn't she."
Alex glanced at the corner where I was. I ducked my head quickly feeling my heart race.
"Mr. Harrison? Do you find her pretty?" The man demanded.
"I think of her as just a colleague ." His back was to me now.
"So you don't find her attractive?" The man asked.
"Your not interested in her?"
"No. She's just a colleague-Not even, she's only an intern to me." He said confidently.
I swallowed my pain and took off down the stairwell.
My heels clicked as I hurried down the stair and into the main lobby feeling a swelling lump in my throat. As I opened the stairwell doors to the lobby I took a deep breath trying to look as completely fine as I could.
I sighed and sat down on the stairs feeling..sad. Some idiotic part of me actually believed Alex- Mr.
Harrison, liked me. More than a colleague, even maybe a little bit more than a friend. Or maybe it was me the whole time. Maybe, just maybe I was the one who liked him.
I sighed and the door opened. Mr. Harrison's eyes met mine.
His cheeks turned scarlet red and his lips parted the slightest.
"Oh-um, I-I thought you had already left Mrs. Grant." His voice was so professional it felt like an insult. I glanced up at him and he hadn't moved.
"What do you want me to reply to that? Your wrong? I haven't left?" He frowned at my reply.
"Did I offend you?" He glared at me, the authority strong in his voice.
"Something like that." I muttered. I went to get up but he blocked the exit.
"What are you implying." His eyes finally meeting mine for more than a second.
"Can you move, please?"
"Tell me." He glared at me again to which I rolled my eyes.
"It's not your business." I said and pushed his chest.
"Nether was eves dropping on my conversation?" He said with a raised eyebrow while staring down at me.
I pulled my hands away and pushed past him and out into the lobby.
There were a few people still there. A janitor, the two men and a clerk.
Alex stood in the doorway still and I glanced back at him. He watched in agony as the two men whispered to themselves before walking away.
He glared at me again before taking off back up the stairs.
I gulped feeling the ball in my throat build yet again.
My stomach churned.
I got home and quickly ran upstairs to the bathroom and spilled my guts.
"Are you alright?" Mark asked,
"Yeah." I mumbled, standing up and feeling a bit weak. I hadn't eaten since breakfast and the whole drama with Alex didn't help. I wanted to cry, so bad. But it wasn't my place, he was right. I'm just an intern.
Mark stood in the doorway.
"Why were you puking?"
"I didn't feel well."
"Are you sure your not just trying to slim down so you look good for your friends tomorrow?"
I completely forgot about Joanne and Caitlyn. They were my friends growing up. I've been super close to them through highschool even college but we all went separate ways afterwards. Luckily I promised them months ago they could stay over for the week.
Maybe they can get my mind off Mr. Harrison. Hopefully.
