The bed was soft and the quilt was warm. The temperature was just right and I was completely relaxed. But still, something just did not feel right. My hair was tied up. I usually leave it loose before going to bed. Wait a minute what am I wearing ? I should be in my night gown.

My eyes flew open and I sat up on the bed. There was a huge clock on the wall, just over the door. It was late in the morning. On the little table beside the bed, was a jug of water and a glass kept together. The room had just one window overlooking some trees. There were different paintings on the walls and a rocking-chair sat at a corner. The floor was carpeted and the ceiling had a beautiful chandelier.

This is not my room. That was the first thought that came to my mind, and just as I thought that, yesterday's events rushed back to my mind like a flashback on fast forward. I almost cried. No I cannot do that now, I must be strong, I just cannot be weak.

Thinking positive thoughts I got off the bed and quietly walked out the door of the room and stepped into the corridor. It was dark and quiet. Candles were lit along the corridor walls. Though it was morning not a ray of sunshine seemed to enter the place.

The corridor ended a little ahead giving way to a staircase leading down. There was another staircase against the wall leading higher up into the house.

I quietly crept down the staircase and it led to a living room. There was a chandelier hanging on the ceiling, larger than the one in the room above. Thee was a sofa set in the center and two rocking chairs in the corners. The floor was carpeted with a soft carpet and the room was dimly lit.

There were people talking in the kitchen, so I decided to go and find out who they were. There were delicious aromas in the air and my stomach growled and my mouth watered. I wonder what it is. I hope I get some of it too. I'm really hungry. I cannot remember the last time I had eaten something. It wasn't last night, that was for sure.

When I entered the kitchen it was nothing like what I had expected to see. I had expected a nice family making breakfast together but boy, was I wrong. I was so wrong.

At that moment my hunger dissolved and all I wanted to do was to make a run for the door, but like in all terrifying situations, my feet were glued to the ground and I was staring at them. I was particularly staring at the witch. She was staring back at me. She had a crooked expression on her face that I couldn't quite make out.

"So...you have finally decided to wake up," said the witch with an expression of displeasure.
