ROSE
I woke up with Collins beside me, shaking me. “Rose, wake up” Collins continuously shakes me. “What?” I’m still sleepy and I feel like my brain isn’t working yet.
“Someone’s looking for you” Collins said. And then I heard the door knocked. “Princess Rose?” And then another couple of knocks. I got up from my bed and straighten the strangles in my hair. The others are still sleeping. I wonder how Collins is up so early.
I looked over to the clock. It’s six in the morning. Who could possibly want anything to do with me this early? I walked up to the door and opened it. It was Will.
“Um, your majesty, Prince Zach is inviting you to breakfast” Will said. I raised my eyebrows. “Right now?” I asked. He nodded. “Oh, ok. Tell him I’ll be there in five” Will nodded and bowed.
“What is it?” Collins asked, in between. “Oh it’s nothing, Collins. Zach is just inviting me for a breakfast” I answered. Collins smiled.
I stared at her. “What?”
“Maybe he’s your true love” Collins said. My eyes widen. “What? True love? No, we’re just having breakfast Collins”
“Well in fairytales, the prince and the princess falls in love the moment they see each other. It’s like, they knew that it was love. Maybe that’s how Zach feels about you” Collins said. I just stared at her.
“Somebody’s been reading too much fairytales” I smiled.
“Don’t you want him to be your prince charming?” She asked. I looked over to Will. He was as surprised as I was. “Ok Collins, that’s enough. Go read some more fairytales,” I said, pushing her gently inside.
I laughed. Will smiled. “Your sister is very… imaginative” He said. I smiled. “Yeah well, I used to be the same, when I was her age. I thought I could always get what I want and have a happy ending” I said. “Even though I’m a princess, still. There are lots of stuff that I can’t have,” I continued.
“What is it that you want?” He asked.
I stood there quietly for a second before answering, “Freedom,”
Will looked at me, confused. “Well, my father has been keeping me and my sisters locked in this castle for as long as I could remember. I mean, I know that this… All of this is not, you know, terrible or anything. But I just wanted to… to see the world. The world beyond the castle, much further” I explained. I sighed.
Will just smiled. “I’m sure he’s just trying to protect you” He said.
“I know” I said. I looked at him. His blue eyes is just beautiful. I could get lost in them forever. “Well, I should probably go change” I said.
“Oh, yes, absolutely” He said, and bowed. I smiled and closed the door.
Ok, I need to get ready. Anyway, why is Zach inviting me to a breakfast, this early? But oh well. I’m already hungry anyways. It wouldn’t hurt. I put on my yellow dress with thin straps. I also put on a big yellow ribbon on my hair. I think this would do. So I left my room.
I found Zach outside, in the garden. There were a table and two white chairs in the middle of the garden. He was sitting on one of the chairs. They are not supposed to be there. I guess he arranged all of these.
“So… you got my invitation” He said, seeing me arrive. I smiled. “Yes I did. But why so early?” I asked. He laughs. “Oh, I just like that no one’s here to disturb us.” He answered.
I approach him and I sit on the other chair, opposite to him. The food is already there. There were a two plates with pancakes on them and two glasses of milk.
I poured chocolate syrup to the pancakes and started to eat them. “These are delicious” I said.
He smiled. “Well, I ordered the best” and then also started to eat.
“So…” I looked at him. “Have you found any possible… soul mate?” I asked, remember why he’s here. He smirked. “Well, I can’t say. I arrived here yesterday,” He continued eating. I looked around. Will is not too far away. He’s tidying the plates.
“Actually, Rose, I wanted to ask you to go spend some time with me at the town garden this afternoon,” He said.
I remembered the plan I had with Will. “I’m sorry, Zach. But I can’t make it—“
But he interrupted me. “Well if the problem is your father not letting you go out to town…” He stopped and beckoned Will to come to fill the empty glass. “You don’t have to worry about that. I’m sure he’ll let you go with me,” He continued, as Will approach our table.
“That’s not the problem, Zach” I said.
He looked confused. “Then what is?”
“You see, I already have a plan this afternoon” I explained. Will is now next to our table, filling the glasses. Zach laughs. “Really? With who?” He asked.
I stopped. Will just kept his head down. “With him…” I said, looking at Will. Zach stared at Will, and then laughs. “Him?” He asked, pointing at Will. “The servant?”
I nodded slightly. “You think I’ll fall for it?” Zach asked, still laughing.
I raised my eyebrows. Zach did not believe it. Will immediately walks away from our table after filling up the glasses. I know he must’ve felt uneasy.
“It’s true, Zach. Why would I lie to you? I could just say it if I didn’t want to go with you” I said. His laugh slowly fades away. He looked at Will, and then back to me, and shook his head. “I can’t believe you, Rose. You’re actually hanging out with a… servant?” He asked
I stared at his grey eyes. “Yes, Zach. And I don’t need you telling me who I can and can’t hang out with” I said, finishing my milk and then stand up leaving him sitting alone.
I just don’t like the fact that Zach thinks just because I’m a princess I can’t hang out with Will, a servant. I mean, being a royalty doesn’t mean you’re better than anyone else. You just… happened to be born in a wealthier family. It’s not like you’ve actually done anything.
“Wait… Rose!” He called, standing up also to catch up with me. I stopped and turned. “What?”
Zach sighed. “Look, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have laughed at you. I should’ve believed you,” He apologized.
“It’s fine” I said.
“Well… maybe we can go tomorrow then?” He asked.
I don’t see why I should refuse. Even if I didn’t want to go, I don’t have any reason. Plus I would feel bad. So I just agreed. “Sure” I said, and smiled. After all, tomorrow night is Adele’s birthday. My parents would surely throw a ball. I could just hang out with him there.
