ROSE
I can still feel my heart beating faster than ever. I can feel the butterflies in my stomach. My brain is not working. I just froze there in the middle of the garden, at night.
I’m not sure what just happened. All I remember is Will coming up to me and kissed me, and everything is just a blur from there. The kiss. It was completely different from the ones I had with Zach. He and I have kissed many times, since we’re already engaged, but none of it were like this.
It’s… amazing. He made me happier than I’ve ever been. But how is that even possible? I am in love with Zach… Am I?
Everything is just mixing up inside of my brain. I really need to talk to Adele about this. I knew she had some experience with love back then and maybe she could help me. I know she could.
So I went back to my room and find everyone is asleep except for Adele. She is reading a book on her bed. She saw me, but said nothing. I decided to approach her.
“Adele,” I called.
She looked up from her book to me. “Yeah?”
I sat on her bed next to her. “I need you to help me with something,” I said.
She closed her book and put it aside. “What is it?”
“I… I know that I’m getting married tomorrow with Zach and everything. But… I don’t think I love him,” I said, looking at her, scared. I am terrified of her reaction. I don’t know how she’s going to say to any of this. I mean, all of us have been working on the wedding for months now, and suddenly… this happened.
“What do you mean?” She asked, certainly still not understanding.
“You see, I’ve been friends with this guy for quite a while now, and I just… I guess I just never really consider him for more than just a friend of mine. And tonight… He told me about his feelings for me,” And I stopped. I stared at her, waiting for her reaction, but she just smiled.
“Why are you smiling?” I asked her, giving her a face.
“Nothing,” She said, and her smile fades slowly.
I sighed.
“Well… do you love him?” She asked.
“That’s the question I thought you can help me answer,”
Adele shook her head. “No, Rose. I can’t help you answer that. Only you can know your feelings,” She said, pointing her index finger to my chest, where my heart is.
“So I’m going to ask you this one more time: Do you love him?”
I start to imagine him. Imagine the times we’ve spent together. The time when we met at the bookshop. It made my day so much better. I felt even happier to found out that he worked at the castle. And then at night, we saw each other. He was serving at the dinner party. Then he spilled the orange juice all over Phyllis because he’s too surprised of knowing who I really am. I found that really cute.
Then there’s the time when we were at the ball. He noticed me and followed me outside where he gave me the heart necklace. The one I’m still wearing now. My hand reached the heart pendant. I haven’t put it off ever since he put it on me.
I knew it must’ve cost all he had to buy this necklace. He had done so much for me and yet I’m still oblivious to everything.
And at this moment, I realized something. I felt this thing that I have never felt before when I’m with Zach.
