Chapter 一
Greetings

My feet slapped against the cold marble floors of the mansion. The fast pitter patter echoing the halls in a soft volume. I arrived at the grand ballroom, a tray in hand, and slipped inside to make my way over to the food table. I placed down the remaining tray on the silk cloth lined table with satisfaction. My mismatched eyes scanned the room for any imperfections.

Once I was satisfied that everything was in perfect condition I soundlessly left the room. If there were to be a slip up during the event than the other servants would take care of it, after all once I grab my meal from the day from the kitchen I was to disappear from sight. I was typically only allowed one blood pack a day and was to be left to starve the rest of the day in my room, but when events are to be prepared for than I was allowed to grab enough for the full day. It was to keep a good impression if a guest were to ever stumble upon my room.

The kitchen was ice cold, but I was by now numb to the shivering feel. I opened the small fridge under the prep table to reveal three packets of blood. I grabbed then and swiftly made my way out back to the small storage house; my room. Just as I was approaching the back door, a figure appeared next to the door.

Stopping a few feet away I tightened my grip on the blood packets and bowed to the dark haired boy. "Are you done with the preparations already, Ryda?" The older boy questioned me, but his tone was soft.

I didn't not look up at him, but I did nod my head--my blood red scarf bouncing with my action. "I see. Well you better be off before Juri sees that you are still in the mansion."

With that he was gone like the wind. A soundless sigh escaped me before I rushed about to run through the snow and into the small shed that was my home. I dropped the packets on the wooden floor to the side of the door, keeping one in hand. I bit into the packet, slowly sipping the plasma content to savour it. If I manage to survive on just two packets today than I'll be able to have a second packet tomorrow without anyone knowing.

I tucked myself under the old, rags I call blankets and clued into a ball to conserve heat.it was dark in the room, I had burnt through my last candle for the month the night before due to the extra drop in temperature. Though I was used to the cold I wasn't about to risk my frail body catching frostbite.

Approximately an hour of savouring 1 packet went by and the sounds of a bustling party rang out from the mansion. Today was Christmas Eve and the masters were hosting a party. I could hear the sounds of children running about the garden not too far from my little storage shed, the joyous laughter of the princess of the house resonated a sting of bitterness in my unbeating heart. "Come play tag with us, Kaname!"

Yuki Kuran, the daughter of Juri and Haruka Kuran, younger sister to Kaname Kuran, and supposedly my younger sister as well. I was the black sheep of the family; the unknown child. A maid had once told me it was because of my 'disgusting' eyes, she was a harsh woman with her words but the closest thing to a mother I have ever had as her harsh words to me were always instructions which I took for as guidance. The day my voice was taken away from me was the day she disappeared from my grasp.

The door to my shed suddenly opened and a boy with bright blue eyes wandered in. He stared down at me, his electric blues locked with my. "Who are you?" The boy asked as he took a few slow steps closer.

Panic shot through me and in an instant I shook my head and waved my hands frantically to signal for him to not come any closer than he already was. A panicked "ah" sound wheezed out of my throat as I did this--causing the boy to stop mid-step.

He gave me a curious look before his eyes fell to my neck with wide eyes, that was when I realised that my scarf had slipped off and my neck was now not only exposed to the cold air, but also my scar was on show for the world. "So you can't speak..." The boy mumbled, more to himself it seems rather than to me. He was suddenly crouched down in front of me, the tip of his nose practically touching mine. A soundless squeal escaped me and I stumbled backwards, falling over smack onto my back in surprise. "Well, no matter. I'm bored and need somewhere to hide out before my mom drags me around like a doll again."

The boy sat down criss-cross in his spot, reaching over to pull me back up in a sitting position. My mismatched eyes widened in feat as his bare hands touched mine, my body automatically began feeding off his energy. He noticed this and let go of me just as he sat me up. Fear filled me and I dipped my head down, my eyes squeezed shut to prepare myself for a smack or verbal attack. To my surprise neither happened.

"Geez, you're totally malnutritioned if your body is doing that instantly." The boy sighed and soon placed his hand on the top of my head--this caused me to jerk slightly out of habit. I felt arms circling me and was suddenly pulled into the boy's chest. "Lucky for you I was over smothered a few minutes ago." His hand on my head played with my hair. "I'll do this for you in return for letting me hide here, alright?" I just nodded, already giving up on objecting since I could already tell he was a stubborn one.

"I'm Hanabusa Aido, by the way."

I looked up at him and pointed to the small cup that was sitting on the shelf above me. My name was roughly engraved on it in messy lettering. "It's nice to meet you, Ryda."
